Earth Marrow Washing for Grounding, Qi Flow, and Nervous System Balance
Kellie and Kelly founded the Academy of Embodiment Arts and host the Soul Discovery podcast. They combine Qigong with meditation and energy mastery to guide people to embody a new frequency through transmutation and transformation for lasting change.
Earth Marrow Washing is a grounding technique that wakes up your body’s natural ability to connect with the Earth’s Qi. It is the foundation needed to be able to do more advanced breathing techniques such as Bone Breathing (the ability to breathe Qi directly into your bones) and White Light Breathing (the ability to breathe white light into every cell in your body and the spaces between).

Over time, Earth Marrow Washing trains your nervous system to feel the Earth, connect you to the Heart of the planet, and consciously feel the sensations of the body. It opens the meridian channels in your body to a deeper level of connection with the Earth’s Qi. It also connects us with our feelings and emotions in order to hear the information in them so we can use it consciously for our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing.
The figure 8, or infinity shape, followed by the breath unifies the inner gate of the body, which houses all three Dan Tiens. The Dan Tiens are energy centres in Chinese medicine, lower (root/sacral), middle (heart/solar plexus), and upper (third eye/crown). These energy centres hold what is called a cauldron of Qi. These “cauldrons” are centres of nerve bundles that move neuro-electrical energy. The Lower Dan Tien, for example, has more neural nodes than the brain. It is the engine that built you in your mother’s womb.
This technique can be practised anytime, anywhere. Grounding doesn’t always have to involve our feet being connected to the bare earth. If you are within the Earth’s energy field, you can connect to it. You can be thirty stories up in a high-rise and still ground yourself.
To begin, the breath is drawn in through the Bubbling Well, or Yongquan, which is located on the bottom of the foot (mid-pad). The Bubbling Well is a secondary energy centre, or chakra, much like the ones located in the hips and shoulders. It is a vital acupuncture and acupressure point on the sole of the foot in traditional Chinese medicine, traditionally used to ground the body, reduce stress, improve sleep, calm racing thoughts, and boost energy.
On the breath in, visualize the breath travelling up through the left foot, all the way up the leg to the hip. Once it reaches the hip, imagine it travelling diagonally up to the right shoulder, then crossing over to the left shoulder. On the exhale, visualize the breath moving diagonally down the body, crossing to the right hip. Then imagine it moving down the right leg into the foot and back into the earth. Be sure to inhale and exhale through the nose with the tongue pressed to the roof of the mouth. This engages the vagus nerve and helps to relax the nervous system.
This technique can be practised for a certain number of breaths or for minutes at a time. It takes practice to visualize a smooth breath. Over time, you will notice parts of the body where the breath might get stuck. Practise smoothing it out and listening to the messages held in the tissues.
