What do you think of when you hear Monte Carlo and Monaco? For millions of people, Monte-Carlo evokes a fairy tale Kingdom of beauty and opulence that exudes the splendour of the good life. I spent this summer in Monte Carlo and Monaco, (as well as visiting and staying in other places too such as Cannes, Nice, Antibes, St. Tropez, and more.

Over the years I have worked with hundreds of clients all over the world.

But Monte Carlo truly is a unique place.

Yes, it is a magical place. And yet it is also a real place.

A place with real people who live real lives.

It is not just a fairytale.

Monaco is a place of real people.

And wherever there are people there a real lives with real issues.

Just because it may appear from the outside that these people live perfect, magical fairytale lives, the reality is that we are all just the same.

We are all people.

We all live full, varied, and often complicated lives.

Most people have issues and problems to sort and solve.

And so whoever you are, and wherever you live, we are all the exact same.

We are all human beings with vulnerabilities and strengths.

We all have hopes and fears.

We all have loves and dislikes.

We all have dreams and demons.

So, you are not alone.

Monte Carlo has been a symbol of luxury for decades. Founded in 1866, it derives its Italian name for “Mount Charles” in honour of the then reigning Prince Charles III. Charles the III was the 10th reigning Prince of Monaco. The first, Honoré I 1612, was recognized by Louis XIII of France.

The Princely family of Monaco is the world’s second longest reigning dynasty.

Due to a constant media coverage, “Monte-Carlo” figures amongst the most recognizable names in the world synonymous of a very exclusive style of living.

Officially known as the Principality of Monaco; it's a sovereign city-state and microstate, located on the French Riviera in Western Europe.

Bordered by France on three sides; one side bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

Monaco has an area of 2.02 km² (0.78 sq mi) and a population of over 36,000, making it the second smallest and the most densely populated country in the world. The highest point in the country is a narrow pathway named Chemin des Révoires on the slopes of Mont Agel, in the Les Révoires Ward, which is 161 metres (528 feet) above sea level. Monaco's most populous Quartier is Monte Carlo and the most populous Ward is Larvotto/Bas Moulins. Through land reclamation, Monaco's land mass has expanded by 20%.

Monaco is a principality governed under a form of constitutional monarchy, with Prince Albert II as head of state. Although Prince Albert II is a constitutional monarch, he wields immense political power

Early history

The House of Grimaldi have ruled Monaco, with brief interruptions, since 1297. The official language is French, but Monégasque, Italian, and English are widely spoken and understood.

The state's sovereignty was officially recognised by the Franco-Monegasque Treaty of 1861, with Monaco becoming a full United Nations voting member in 1993.
