Certified Home Nursing Solutions: Turning Vision into Everyday Impact

When Tasha Brown and Adrius King founded Certified Home Nursing Solutions in 2016, it wasn’t about chasing a business trend—it was about fixing something deeply personal. Both had watched loved ones struggle with care systems that focused narrowly on medical needs while overlooking cultural background, emotional health, and personal dignity.
“We wanted to build something that looked at the whole person,” Tasha recalls. “Not just a chart, not just a checklist—but a life.”
They began in Edgewood, Maryland, with a small team and a simple mission: keep seniors at home longer with care that truly felt like care.

From Local Start to Statewide Reach
Early days meant doing everything—recruiting staff, managing schedules, and visiting clients themselves. One turning point came when they secured licensure for in-home care, opening the way to offer a full range of services. Later, becoming a Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provider brought new opportunities to support individuals with disabilities through residential care, job coaching, and day programmes.
“Every expansion was about listening,” Adrius says. “Families told us where the gaps were, and we found a way to close them.”
Today, they serve communities from Baltimore City to Whitemarsh, offering both traditional and highly specialised care.
Building a Culture of Care
Hiring wasn’t just about finding people with credentials—it was about finding those with compassion and cultural awareness. Staff are trained to respect Maryland’s diversity and to adapt care plans to each client’s values and traditions.
“One of our clients was anxious about having anyone in her kitchen,” Tasha recalls. “We learned she had a very specific way of cooking tied to her culture. So, our caregiver took the time to learn it from her. That built trust, and everything else got easier from there.”
Innovation from the Ground Up
Not every big idea came from the boardroom. Their job coaching service for DDA clients started when two individuals expressed interest in working but lacked support. Instead of turning them away, they designed a pilot programme, pairing them with local employers and on-the-job mentors.
“Now, those clients are thriving in roles they enjoy,” Adrius says. “We saw the spark and built the structure around it.”
Facing Challenges Head-On
One of their early missteps was expanding faster than their staffing capacity. It stretched resources thin and threatened their service quality. They quickly learned the value of pacing growth to match team readiness.
“It was humbling,” Tasha admits. “But it taught us to protect our standards. Expansion means nothing if the care suffers.”
A Community Effort
They are quick to say their work doesn’t happen in isolation. Partnering with small businesses has opened doors for clients to find employment. Building trust with families has created a steady flow of word-of-mouth referrals.
“Care doesn’t just happen in the home,” Adrius says. “It’s built in the community—through employers willing to give someone a chance, neighbours offering rides, and local groups welcoming our clients into activities.”
Looking Forward
As Maryland’s aging population grows and demand for disability services rises, Certified Home Nursing Solutions is focused on sustainability. That means investing in staff training, strengthening partnerships, and keeping their mission front and centre.
“We want to keep proving that care can be personal, respectful, and effective all at once,” Tasha says. “That’s the idea we started with—and it still drives us every day.”
