Let me not mince my words. TRUST will make or break your qualities as a Leader! TRUST is not only a character trait, but one that can be created and demolished in equal measure. When building a business, business leaders need to have their teams trust their leadership and that the vision is something that they can trust, believe in and follow.

So without further ado, I want to present a few tips on establishing and building trust in your organisation or business.

  1. Business leaders should lead by example and model ethical behaviour and values that align with the organisation's mission and vision. By demonstrating honesty, integrity, and transparency, leaders can build trust among employees and stakeholders.

  2. Communicate openly and effectively. Effective communication is not just about talking but listening as well. Business leaders should communicate regularly and transparently, provide clear expectations, and actively listen to feedback from employees and stakeholders.

  3. Giving employees autonomy and decision-making power can help build trust and engagement. Business leaders should delegate responsibilities and provide opportunities for growth and development to demonstrate trust in their employees.

  4. Creating a culture of collaboration can help build trust among employees by promoting a sense of teamwork and shared ownership of the organisation's goals. Business leaders should always encourage collaboration and foster a culture of openness and respect.

  5. Acknowledging and recognising employees' contributions can help build trust and increase motivation. Business leaders should provide constructive feedback, recognition, and support to build trust and foster growth. An organisation I am involved with has an evening award event celebrating the excellent work of colleagues throughout the year.

  6. Business leaders should build strong relationships with employees, stakeholders, and customers. Building relationships based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding can help increase engagement and loyalty. How you make employees FEEL is an important element of leadership. As Catherine the Great says: 'I praise loudly and blame softly'

  7. Accountability is crucial for building trust in the organisation. Business leaders should hold themselves and others accountable for their actions and decisions, and be transparent about their outcomes.

Our 360 leadership review ensures that this key element of TRUST is evaluated and assessed on an ongoing basis. Reach out if you want to know more.
