What is it that makes a goal "safe"? You won't find the answer by poking around its measurable outcomes or projected timeline. Safe goals are a product of our own making, whether unconscious or not, and can dramatically hamper the rate at which we achieve success. Why? Because safe goals lack the means to inspire us to complete them.

There are two simple ways to check if your goals are safe. The first is to gauge your emotional reaction to each of your goals. When you look at them, do they make your heart speed up? Does your mind start buzzing with possibilities for the future? Can you feel your body itching to act? If you ticked off any of those boxes, congratulations! Your goals live outside your comfort zone and inspire pull motivation, meaning your goals actively pull you toward them. The second means of goal checking requires you to ask yourself, "Am I basing my goals on my current reality?"

Answer this question honestly. If you said yes, your goals won't lead you to the success you deserve. Setting goals based on your current capabilities only creates more of the same results in your life, which is the exact opposite of what they should do. To avoid creating this type of safe goal, forge your goals instead from a state of high energy and vision.

Don't worry, it's not as daunting as it sounds.

Suspend reality and envision your biggest goal or dream completed. Live in this future reality and take note of how your mind and body respond. You're lighter and more energized. Creativity floods you, as well as a wave of new possibilities for what your life could hold. Goals set from this state, with inherent energy and momentum behind them, will always pull you toward them.

Now that you know how to determine if your 2022 goals are too safe and how to create ones that inspire and pull you toward them, there's one last elephant in the room to address. Failure, or rather, the fear of failure, in the face of these newly revamped goals. The fear of failure is often what holds back people from attempting to take on big goals, but a quick mindset shift will lift this final roadblock on your journey to success.

Success comes from good judgment. Good judgment comes from experience. Experience is typically the result of bad judgment and mistakes. Don't let the fear of failure keep you from reaching your full potential and going after your goals. Mistakes line the road to success and offer a priceless learning experience from which to grow.
