Low DHEA and low pregnenolone are signs of an adrenal system under great stress. These are base hormones and if they are low they can't feed your other hormones properly. So this is like you are running on fumes and you may note heightened stress and anxiety, but it doesn't stop there!

Adrenal stress can cause autoimmune issues to flare because your adrenal stress weakens and dysregulates digestion. This creates a leaky gut type syndrome where large proteins and antigens pass to the bloodstream. This not only triggers an immune response, when this happens repeatedly, it can trigger auto-immune disorders. This also means that the food sensitivities you have will heighten and you start to put on more weight in reaction to these reactive foods. More and more foods become inflammatory over time which results in health issues, premature aging and the inability to lose weight.

Adrenal stress and inflammation will also cause thyroid hormone resistance by making your cells less able to "accept" the thyroid hormones stimulation. This means that even if your thyroid numbers read in a "normal range" and even if you're taking thyroid medications, your body may be resistant to the thyroid stimulation that your body so desperately needs for optimal metabolic function.

How do you know if you are having adrenal issues? Simple bloodwork can help you determine your stress levels and we can put you on a regimen to restore you back to optimal weight, health and mood. To book a consultation, you can email us here.
