At some point in your day, make it a habit to Un-Plug from Tech and Plug-In to your Personal Trainer.

Outlined are 8 tips to guide you

1. Time management – We have lost the art of scheduling and setting up boundaries to step away from the desk to be accountable to ourselves. I cannot count how many times ZOOM meetings have been scheduled without asking if I was available, not to forget the time zones we are now having to take into consideration. Block off time for YOU. A time that is uninterrupted by Technology, ZOOM meetings, phone calls, text messages, computer work. Bottom line Un-Plug. 2. Set time with your Personal Trainer face to face in the gym, in your home, at your onsite workplace fitness facility. Yes, a reason to get away, step away from the desk. Using various gadgets and relying on them will never replace the need for human communication and optimal guidance to meet your Health and Wellness goals. Gadgets break down. Your Personal Trainer does not. 3. Ask your Personal Trainer to conduct a thorough Fitness Test. In Canada, the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiologists (CSEP-CFC) certify Personal Trainers at the University level to conduct specialized Fitness testing which includes – Strength, Flexibility, Cardiovascular, Body Fat and Blood Pressure testing. A Personal trainer is qualified to discuss your results and what they mean and what remedies are available in your programming to achieve optimal results. FYI- With this certification, your Personal Trainer will be the first to discover if you have High Blood Pressure before your doctor does. High Blood Pressure is the leading cause of death.

4. Keep your cell phone at the office or at home. We have become a society reliant on a gadget that we feel needs to follow us everywhere. When we enable this, we are not allowing time to Un-Plug from the numerous text messages, phone calls and the need to be staring at our phones. This creates a breakdown in communication with others and most importantly with your Personal Trainer. Your phone has no place and is not a necessity in your workouts. 5. Focus, protect your Mental Health. The new way has brought on a new illness – Mental illness. Your Mental Health and Well-being must be a priority. It is a known fact that exercise elevates the endorphins in the brain, the “natural high” which makes you feel good, energetic, happy. Your Personal Trainer is qualified to lead and teach you to feel good by designing a sound workout plan. A gadget is not. 6. On-line Personal Training is not a means of stepping away from your desk, neither is a computer-generated bot shouting at you to do more. Both come with liability issues that could do more harm than good. When Personal Trainers get certified, they are required and it is mandatory to be CPR and First Aid trained. Without that training, you cannot get your certification. If you are in one area of the world and you are plugged into a Personal Trainer in another area of the world, you have no validation of their credentials. Face to Face, in person is your best means of safety, and assurance of your trainer’s credentials. 7. Most Personal Trainers will develop group workouts. Take time to participate in a group setting, these workouts are fun and will elevate your energy levels. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet others, communicates face to face and is a great support system. 8. Ask questions. We have become a society that is more accepting and reliant on what is marketed to us as opposed to asking ourselves, “Will this actually work for me?” “How will this benefit me long term?” “How will this motivate me?” “What are the liabilities?” Your Personal Trainer is there to answer all your questions and to assist you on every level when it comes to your Health – Mentally, Physically and Emotionally.
