Dr. Zrinka K. Fidermuc Maler

Executive Advisor, Leadership Strategist & Author

Dr. Zrinka K. Fidermuc Maler is an executive advisor, leadership strategist, and author of The Hat and the Hill.

For more than two decades, she has worked with executives, leadership teams, and complex organizations at the intersection of decision-making, human behavior, organizational transformation, and performance under pressure. Her professional journey spans finance, international relations, research and innovation policy, leadership development, and executive advisory.

She is particularly interested in what happens after strategic decisions have been made: why intelligent people and capable organizations often know exactly what should happen next—and still struggle to translate that knowledge into consistent action.

Her advisory work helps senior leaders reduce complexity without oversimplifying it, challenge assumptions and blind spots, strengthen judgment, and translate clarity into practical decisions and behavior. Her philosophy is simple: an advisor should strengthen executive judgment, not replace it.

Dr. Zrinka holds a PhD in international relations and university degrees in German language and literature and Italian language and literature. Her interdisciplinary and international background, combined with more than two decades of working directly with people and organizations, shapes an approach that brings together rigorous thinking, human behavior, and practical implementation.

Her book, The Hat and the Hill, brings together science and lived experience, leadership and the body, midlife, identity, hormones, ambition, culture, absurdity, and humor. Written primarily for women entering the second half of life, it challenges inherited stories about aging, femininity, success, leadership, and what a woman’s life is supposed to look like after forty-five.

At its core is a question of sovereignty:

What happens when a woman stops negotiating against herself and begins authoring the next part of her life on her own terms?
