Dr. Udim Isang

The (Em)Body Doctor & Nigerian Healer

Dr. Udim Isang, DPT, EdD, Mbia Idiong (they/them/it), is an award-winning Nigerian healer, physical therapist, educator, spiritual coach, and Indigenous medicine practitioner. They are a genetic and autodidactic student of ancestral wisdom from the Ibibio and Annang tribes of Nigeria, as well as Chinese medicine and Tibetan Buddhist tantra. Through the intuitive use of dance, Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), brainspotting, and energy work, Dr. Udim creates transformative healing spaces rooted in both ancient practice and clinical expertise.

Their approach centers those living with the physical aftermath of emotional, mental, and spiritual trauma—especially those impacted by religious, cultural, societal, and childhood wounds. As a trauma-informed disability justice advocate and master Reiki practitioner, Dr. Udim is deeply committed to creating sanctuary for the overlooked, the misdiagnosed, and the misunderstood. Their lived experiences as a synesthete and childhood abuse survivor inform—not define—their work, adding depth and embodied empathy to their healing philosophy.

A mixed-media artist, poet, and movement therapist, Dr. Udim finds personal restoration through spoken word, dance, and strength training. Their debut book, Liberation Through Practice: Voices of Black & Indigenous Healers, captures the wisdom of healers working at the margins and reimagining what wellness can look like. Dr. Udim is a living bridge between tradition and innovation, offering a path to healing that is grounded, liberatory, and alive.
