Tamsin Ward is the founder of Drums4Health, an innovative rhythm-based movement programme designed to support physical health, brain health and emotional wellbeing.
Her journey into this work began at a young age, where she discovered that music was not only a passion but a personal strength throughout her school years. This early connection led her to study for a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) at the University of Wales, followed by a PGCE, setting the foundation for a successful career in education.
Tamsin went on to lead music and performing arts across a number of schools, where she became known for creating engaging, inclusive environments that enabled young people to thrive. Alongside her leadership roles, she completed a Master’s in Education with a focus on coaching, deepening her understanding of how to support individuals to build confidence, develop skills and reach their potential through structured guidance and encouragement.
Over time, her career progressed into senior leadership within specialist education, where she developed a particular interest in supporting children and young people with autism and ADHD.
It was here that her thinking began to evolve. Through her work, Tamsin recognised that anxiety, disengagement and barriers to participation were not limited to those with identified needs. Increasingly, she saw that many students were struggling to regulate, focus and engage within traditional classroom structures. This led her to explore the role of movement as a universal support, rather than something reserved for a specific group.
She became a strong advocate for embedding movement opportunities for all young people, recognising its potential to support not only physical health but also emotional regulation, concentration and confidence.
Alongside her work in schools, Tamsin also worked with organisations such as Bredoncare, leading choirs for older adults. This experience deepened her understanding of the powerful role music can play across the lifespan — particularly in supporting connection, confidence and wellbeing in later life.
More recently, her work has extended into partnerships with dementia support organisations, where she has seen first-hand the positive impact of rhythm and movement. Sessions have demonstrated encouraging outcomes, including increased engagement, improved mood and moments of connection between individuals and their families. Feedback from participants and carers consistently highlights the emotional and cognitive benefits of these shared experiences.
Bringing together her background in music, education, coaching and movement, Tamsin founded Drums4Health to offer something different.
Unlike many “cardio drumming” classes that use exercise balls and buckets, Drums4Health focuses on rhythmic pattern, musicality and variation in tone, alongside structured movement that targets key muscle groups. By combining rhythm and physical activity, sessions stimulate both the body and the brain, supporting coordination, cardiovascular fitness and neuroplasticity.
What began as a simple idea has quickly grown into a thriving and expanding programme, with regular classes increasing in popularity and reaching communities across the UK.
At its core, Drums4Health reflects Tamsin’s belief that movement should be inclusive, engaging and meaningful — and that by combining rhythm and movement, we can unlock powerful benefits for people of all ages.
