Maynard Hebert is a Canadian heavy-industry leadership expert, speaker, and the author of Onward Buttercups: A Layman’s Guide to Team Building. A Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (Off-Road) and Automotive Service Technician, Maynard has spent more than three decades working in Alberta’s mining and oil sands industry, specializing in diagnostics, shovel repair, field service, and technical leadership. His career includes major roles with Mader Mining, KMC Mining, CNRL Horizon, and multiple field-service operations, earning him a reputation as a trusted mentor to new leaders and a go-to problem solver in high-pressure environments.

In 2024, Maynard was awarded Mader Mining’s “Outstanding Employee of the Year” for his contributions to crew development and reliability improvement. His frontline understanding of workforce culture–combined with his straightforward, humorous communication style–has made him a respected voice on workplace conflict, team trust, and leadership accountability.

Maynard is also the host of the Gears of Trust podcast, where he interviews industry leaders, tradespeople, and subject-matter experts about leadership, employee relations, and life in heavy industry. He develops training programs, speaks at industry events, and helps companies strengthen retention, communication, and team performance through practical, human-first strategies.
