Julie Wan

Psychotherapist and Counsellor

Julie Wan is a Psychotherapist and Counsellor based on the South Coast of the UK and the founder of Rockshore Therapy, a private practice supporting teenagers and adults with anxiety, life transitions, and attachment-related difficulties. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and holds a BSc in Psychology alongside a postgraduate diploma at Master’s level in Psychotherapy and Counselling.

Julie’s early professional background was in education, where she worked as head of a specialist department in schools with young people, alongside teaching mindfulness and yoga to adults. She later trained in psychotherapy, developing a humanistic-existential approach informed by phenomenology, attachment theory, and developmental psychology.

Her clinical experience includes working within organisational settings such as the YMCA, followed by several years in private practice. Julie has also completed further specialist training in psychotherapy specifically for young people and undertaken advanced training and supervision with Richard Erskine, which significantly deepened her understanding of developmental needs across the lifespan. Additionally, monthly supervision with Ernesto Spinelli further inspired her existential and phenomenological orientation.

Julie’s work is characterised by careful attunement to each client’s individual experience and a commitment to reducing assumption and habitual pattern-making. She supports clients in finding clarity within complex emotional situations, often relieving the weight of self-blame and enabling them to see themselves and their circumstances more clearly. Her professional mission is to help clients understand how their past has shaped them without allowing it to define them, so they can recognise their potential and experience greater freedom in how they live and relate to themselves and the world.
