Born Daniel Dennis Laurence Smith in January 1999, DDL Smith is a London-based novelist who explores contemporary fears in modern society in cross-genre novels. His novels are known for atmospheric storytelling and blending technology with societal fears and folklore. His novels has given him exposure in leading bookstores globally.
His debut series, Detective Dion, examines the pressures of so-called “untouchable” high society; mirroring public perceptions of socialites and tech giants. His subsequent novel, Decay, turns to the fear of fractured families and nuclear radiation, fusing folklore with science and technology.
Smiths creative journey started early in theatre and scriptwriting for YouTube videos. A brechtian-inspired youth club production highlighted issues in segregation and hate crimes cemented his writing style of tacking public views and fears. Later studies in TV and Film production along with independent film projects broadened his talent.
Beyond the page, smith has created a reputation for ‘thinking like a publisher’ in his independent releases due to his experience in marketing and copywriting. His approach has ensured his novels reach further than most self-published titles typically do. His knowledge is now dedicated to helping new authors navigate the business side of self-publishing. With the creation of his own publishing support company, Memomoo, Smith aims to give new authors who aren’t in the view of large publishing houses a voice.
