Author, Expert by Experience, Criminologist

Claire Silverstone-Bright is an author, speaker and criminology researcher whose work connects lived experience with public education, justice and rehabilitation. She is the author of A Life Lived Chronically: Memoir of a DES Daughter, a deeply personal account of living with the lifelong consequences of DES exposure and the hidden medical harm carried by women and families across generations.

Her writing explores what happens when personal experience meets public silence: when medical harm is poorly understood, when women’s pain is minimised, and when complex lives are reduced to labels. Through her memoir, Claire gives voice to the physical, emotional and intergenerational impact of DES, while also reflecting on family, identity, illness, resilience and the long journey toward self-understanding.

Alongside her work on DES, Claire has an academic and professional interest in criminology, rehabilitation and the aftermath of criminalisation. Her wider writing and research examine second chances, desistance, the digital afterlife of convictions, and the ways in which people rebuild identity after adversity. She is particularly interested in how systems can either trap people in the worst chapter of their lives or help them move toward restoration, dignity and contribution.

Claire is also developing work around digital rehabilitation, exploring how outdated or uncontextualised online information can undermine reintegration, employment, community belonging and personal recovery. Her approach brings together lived experience, criminological thinking, public policy and a strong belief in compassionate reform.

Across her books, articles, public speaking and research, Claire’s work is rooted in one central idea: hidden stories matter. Whether writing about DES, justice, health, trauma or rehabilitation, she seeks to turn silence into understanding and lived experience into meaningful public conversation.
