Ashish Prabhu
Company Director and Freelance Journalist
I tell stories to ensure people feel valued and heard. By doing this I help to give them more confidence as they’ll know more about what’s happening in the world around them. This helps them move up through different organisational structures which leads to more financial freedom.
I cover news, current affairs and sports stories specialising in disability, equality and diversity issues. These issues are not covered appropriately by mainstream news companies so I hop to promote equality in society by giving more exposure to them. I have over a decades experience doing the work I do which means I have substantial experience and can recognise an appropriate newsworthy story when I see it.
I have worked with many different organisations through out my career to help give them more coverage and make people aware of the good work they do. This means that more people can benefit from the services they provide and be able to cater for the people they help support.
I have been recognised for the work I do as I have won the freelance Journalist Of The Year award for the past five years in a row at the Prestige awards. This means that I am doing my job well and am able to cater for the right sector of society.
Statistics have shown that mainstream news organisations generally produce stories around topics that will sell and bring in a large audience. By doing this they leave many people in society who might be affected by other issues feeling isolated as they won’t know about or have access to the support they need.
The coverage of niche issues in mainstream British news media is characterized by a tension between the need for broad, high-traffic stories ("clickbait") and the occasional, often high-impact, coverage of specialized or underreported subjects. While mainstream outlets, including the BBC and major national newspapers, prioritize mass appeal, they occasionally bring niche issues into the public consciousness, particularly when these issues can be framed through human-interest stories or dramatic, visual, or scandalous narratives.
The relationship between mainstream and niche media has been found to be more symbiotic than competitive. This means that they can generally work together and benefit from each other to help cater for the values and interests of the whole community.
I have a broad knowledge of diverse cultures and backgrounds. I have gained this through my own personal experience and can add elements of this in the stories I produce. This helps to make people who might be from different areas of the world feel more included and help them relate to the main subject in question. This also helps me to bring in a more varied audience and readership to the stories I produce.
I have quite a large professional network which means I have access to help and support from like minded people who cater for the same areas.
