Andy Travis
Therapist
In 1988, when Andy Travis was 17, his mother began training to be a Lifeline telephone counsellor. She would often talk to him about it. He was fascinated. The following year, Andy had a series of out-of-body experiences. They confirmed what he'd been reading about the parallels between mysticism and quantum physics. He embarked on a life-long journey of meditation. In his early 30s, a mood disorder and sex/love addiction led him to 12 Step peer-support groups, where he continues to volunteer today. He established Meeting Point Counselling in 2016.
Andy’s a spoken-word poet and a former community radio host. He has a Diploma of Counselling, an Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Counselling and a Diploma of Holistic Integrated Creative Arts Therapy. He’s studied/taught meditation for 36 years, practised 12-step addiction recovery for 16 years and has6 years experience as a men's group facilitator.
Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and GESTALT inform his work as a transpersonal counsellor. ‘Transpersonal’ means transcending the ordinary sense of self. If you want, he can facilitate your exploration of ‘non-ordinary states of consciousness’ (without mind-altering substances). This could enable you to access more inner resources than ordinary talk therapy could.
Please feel free to contact him to arrange a free 15 minute phone conversation, so you can see if he’s the right counsellor for you.
