Those who do not know, are scared! But what is really ChatGPT, and How It Is Causing Headache for Different Sectors, and What Can They Do About It? This is what we cover in this article. What is AI? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an interdisciplinary area of computer science that deals with the development of intelligent systems, which are capable of autonomously reacting to their environment and performing tasks traditionally requiring human intelligence. AI draws upon methods from mathematics, engineering, computer science, linguistics, psychology, neuroscience and other disciplines to build autonomous systems that can perceive their environment, reason and learn from experience in order to make decisions. Common examples of AI include virtual personal assistants such as Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Microsoft's Cortana; facial recognition technology; self-driving cars; and machine learning algorithms used by companies like Google and Facebook to analyse data. The term "AI" is also used to refer to intelligence exhibited by artificial entities (such as robotic systems) that resemble biological organisms. There are various kinds of AI. Generative AI is a form of Artificial Intelligence that is focused on the automated production of new or novel content. It involves a set of algorithms and techniques which enable computers to generate unique outputs based on input data. Generative AI utilizes generative models, such as probabilistic models, which allow for the creation of novel objects within a defined data space. These models are trained using an ample collection of training data in order to create outputs that can be used for various applications. Generative AI differs from former forms of AI in that it enables the machine to build models based on data sets and learn from them. This form of Artificial Intelligence utilizes unsupervised learning techniques, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Autoencoders, to produce new data. These models are capable of creating novel data points that are similar to the original datasets they were trained on, allowing them to generate new knowledge. What is ChatGPT In recent years, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and specifically Generative AI has been continuing to disrupt different sectors. One of the most talked-about examples of this disruption is ChatGPT ‒ or Generative Pre-training Transformer, a revolutionary AI technology developed by a research laboratory based in San Francisco named OpenAI that can generate human-like conversations and responses. ChatGPT is an advanced natural language processing (NLP) system designed to emulate conversation with humans. It utilizes a deep learning model based on the Transformer architecture to generate conversational responses in real-time. By leveraging the power of machine learning algorithms and sophisticated linguistic datasets, ChatGPT can accurately interpret user input and generate appropriate answers that mimic human interaction. The system also enables contextual awareness, allowing it to build a virtual context where users can converse naturally and intuitively. ChatGPT can be used to generate natural language responses to questions. For example, when asked "What is the capital of The Netherlands?", ChatGPT can generate the response "The capital of The Netherlands is Amsterdam.", and continue asking it, "What is great about it?", it understands the context and will continue "Amsterdam is a city with a rich history, beautiful architecture, and a vibrant culture. It is known for its iconic canals, museums...". There are already many examples of what you may be able to achieve with ChatGPT out there. From doing complete research using the tool, to creating a trading bot enabling you make automatic investments, people have tried to test various automations using the amazing knowledge at their hand brought by ChatGPT. That is why it took only 5 days before the tool reached one million users, upon introduction of the public access to the user interface of ChatGPT in November 2022. ChatGPT and Its Impact While many people see ChatGPT as an amazing achievement for AI, it's also causing headaches for different sectors as its potential uses are vast and varied. The first group who started to suffer from ChatGPT were perhaps the schools and educational institutions. Students could write essays or solve mathematical problems without any efforts. Search YouTube for the videos showing examples of this. This is not the only challenge caused by AI. OpenAI has another AI solution called Dall-E that draws upon the principles of natural language processing, in order to generate images from textual descriptions. This capability is achieved through a deep learning model which leverages the power of transformer architectures, allowing the system to process both text and images concurrently. There are people selling "art pieces" generated by Dall-E or other similar solutions creating debate whether what they are creating is at all art or not. Meet the man behind some of such art here. ChatGPT, Dall-E and other similar AI tools are going to have a fundamental impact on our lives and society. This is just the beginning. Imagine in few months, education needs to deel with access of students to these tools which are getting increasingly available. A school project may not need days and weeks of research at the library or behind the computer to read various articles. Or imagine a business looking for solutions to their problems in a particular domain. Before engaging any consultant, they can ask AI tools on what would be potential solutions to their business challenge. A consultant who has been helping industries by only knowing where to find information and solutions, may be facing diminished demand for their expertise, if not being out of business. The question is how the society should react to what is coming? Future of ChatGPT I believe neither ChatGPT, nor any other AI tools is not going to have negative impact on our society more than what we have been seeing from other technologies. Human brain has certain capacity to digest new concepts mainly based on its general capacity at birth and the expansion of it through life experiences. Every new technology creates both hype and horror. Positive people inflate the hype, and negative ones author the horror scripts. Our experience has shown that even a technology like nuclear has only been helping humanity, when used properly, and destroying it, when wrongly used. AI is not going to be any different. Today ChatGPT is based on its version 3 engine called GPT-3 released in 2020 that uses deep learning to produce human-like text. GPT-3 has been used to create articles, poetry, stories, news reports and dialogues. GPT-4 is an unreleased neural network created by OpenAI, rumored to be coming out in 2023, according to the New York Times. GPT-4 will be able to handle language translation, text summarization, and other tasks in a more versatile and adaptable manner. Software trained through it will be able to infer users' intentions with higher accuracy, even when human error interferes with instructions. There are also rumours that GPT-4 will come also as a mobile app. Microsoft has invested 1 billion dollars in OpenAI already. It has been announced that Microsoft is going to add another 10 billion dollars to their investment in OpenAI. Moreover, there are signs that Microsoft will open access to ChatGPT capabilities to everyone using their browser Edge or who knows anyone who uses Windows. At least we know that Microsoft plans to incorporate OpenAl's PT software into the Bing search engine. Incorporating this technology into Bing could enhance the search experience in a number of ways, including Providing more relevant and accurate search results, by allowing Bing to better understand the context and intent of a user's search query, and provide more relevant and accurate results. Google is dead scared and has announced they are going to open access to their AI solution LaMDA through regular homepage of Google search engine. The other AI tool from Google is already there able to generate a piece of music hearing a snippet of it. Other companies will follow soon. Future of Knowledge The Question comes, if everyone has access to these tools from the address bar of their browser, what is knowledge and know-how then? You will not be able to design a rocket and launch it to space with these tools. But you can find information about your health and disease for example, better than your GP, or defend your case in court. Then who says students should not use such a knowledge source in their work? For now, OpenAI has already created a tools to be able to distinguish between human generated and AI generated text. The use cases of these amazing tools are so many that the pessimists may soon need to get used to this new reality and live a life enabled by AI. One of the interesting use cases of ChatGPT is now its integration in Microsoft Teams which enables a rich meeting experience including AI Notes, Action points, and Summary. As the use cases and hence need to access ChatGPT services increase, its revenue model shows up. As a result, we expect tens of new use cases over coming months. Hence to those horror advocates, as the CEO of OpenAI said, "We adapted to calculators and changed what we tested in math class", get used to it, human knowledge is going to be enriches by instant access to it using AI. Legal Implications: Regulations & Guidelines In order to understand the legal implications of ChatGPT and other AI tools, it is important to look into their use cases and to find out the sectors affected, who is at risk. One way in doing so, is to look into what is not an advantage anymore. For example, in the knowledge-driven sectors, knowing the basics and fundamentals of many domains is not knowledge anymore. Even the practical applications of such domains are not knowledge in the era of AI. Instead, application of these science in solving real problems will stay an advantage owned by real domain experts being individuals or corporations. Hence, in my view, the definition of science may get closer to what is today used to define technology, and the definition of technology will shift to specific application of solutions to solving even more specific problems. As a result, the science, technology, industries, businesses, and societies will become more specialized in their capabilities. Legal implications of such a fundamental shift will be enormous. The keywords being further protection of intellectual property (IP), pay-per-use or subscription revenue models for using know-how, and more protection of novel science and technology preventing it to land on public Internet and hence be source of knowledge of AI Tools, which can be accessible to rivals of businesses and nations. There are already regulations and guidelines regarding AI. But most of these are focused on the ethics, fairness and so on in the application of AI solutions. I expect to see more regulations defining in what domains and processes is use of AI is allowed, followed by regulations addressing what information are eligible to be shared publicly. Conclusion: Taking Action Now Businesses can take immediate steps to take advantage of AI and begin to consider the implications of AI in order to remain competitive in a rapidly changing technological landscape. They should assess their current capabilities and ensure that their infrastructure is able to accommodate the increasingly sophisticated AI technology available. Additionally, businesses should prioritize research and development initiatives that focus on a proactive approach to understanding and implementing AI technologies such as automation, machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive analysis. They should also assess the costs and benefits of implementing AI solutions to determine how AI can be best integrated into their existing landscape. Individuals can also take steps to familiarize themselves with the latest trends and applications of AI. This includes studying emerging AI technologies and the implications of their potential implementation. They can also join in discussions on the ethical implications of AI and participate in civic activities related to regulatory policies or frameworks shaping towards normalizing the integration of AI into their lives. That is what we strive for at Moms Fit Life. Ultimately, in a world where there is little support and conflicting information, it is easy to lose sight of the goal or true end result. Motherhood is that. Moms are often given information or direction that is needed only for that moment, phase, or situation. If a child is causing problems at bedtime, we look for a solution at bedtime. Instead, maybe if we focus on their anxiety at school, they may stop having issues at bedtime, and ultimately learn how to handle their anxiety in life. Then when they get to high school, they have a handle on stress, and emotions, and can do something positive. So it becomes easy to see a postpartum fitness program, and only see it for what it is at that moment. Yes, these programs can help mothers stop their leaking or pain, but they are also designed to teach women how to understand their bodies , the proper way to strengthen a female body, and even to fear heavy things less. It is empowerment at its best. For women who have developed issues after having a baby, signing up for a postpartum fitness program that helps is a no-brainer, right now. It is a need in this phase. They have an urgency and a need for a fix because life is harder than it needs to be. Then as they begin to move through the programs, it becomes clear that this is a lifestyle and a way to stay healthy and strong for life. It doesn’t just end when the leaks stop. However, for some women who never experienced back pain during pregnancy and postpartum, it is less clear. Why join a program that can help fix back pain if you don’t have any? Also, make it a point to add a realistic timeline to make the transition once you're clear with your plan. Find ways to add value for your customers. As you know, your customers are the core of your business. So, when you think of how to reposition your brand, make it a point to keep them always in mind. And that has the potential to cause customers to choose to buy from you. Create the right strategy and do the work. You can reinvent and reposition your brand with the right strategy and hard work. So, when repositioning your brand, the key is to thoroughly analyze your company, who your customers are, and what makes them tick. Once you're clear on your customers and business value, you can identify the areas to innovate. But remember that what you aim to do when you reposition your brand is to re-create a company your customers actively and enthusiastically want to support. In our neighborhoods, public and or private schools were designed to teach the systemic oppression of many cultures and environments. Systemic oppression is systematic and has historical antecedents; it is the intentional reminder for disadvantaged groups of people based on their identity while advancing members of a dominant group such as gender, race, class, sexual orientation, language and more progress in society. Our economic, social, political and cultural systems have emerged in separation. Unfortunately, there is a daily reminder of depression, racism, segregation, differences in our practices as people and many protests to stop the division. Yes, these are all serious issues but here’s a thought for a simple movement, we can begin revitalization in our communities by improving education through teaching financial literacy to our youth. Don’t be misled by the terms “national deficit” and “U.S. deficit” because they have the same meaning and are used interchangeably by the U.S. Treasury. In the last 50 years, the federal government has run a surplus five times, most recently in 2001. The national deficit of $421 billion dollars is due to the federal government spending trillions that exceeded revenue. In the Fiscal Year of 2022, the federal government spent $6.27 trillion and collected $4.90 trillion in revenue, resulting in a deficit. When there is no deficit or surplus due to spending and revenue being equal, the budget is considered balanced. At Alea’s Helping Hand Inc., our mission is simply to impact, motivate and empower our youth to obtain financial literacy. Too often people say their habits are the reasons they’ve characterized themselves with “This is how I’ve been my whole life.” Prohibiting yourself from learning new methods, processes and systems are symptoms of “Stunting your own growth.” Our lives are changing daily and our senses are dull because distractions and propaganda are utilized to gear your thoughts, money and emotions towards the subject matter being sold in your environment and neighborhoods. Pay close attention when exposing the youth to crafty marketing and advertisements are distributed according to geographics, statistics, research and what the consumer craves to hear and see. Don’t take my word for it, just reflect on your deepest desires and goals. What does your mind think of first? As a parent, is it your family and how you’ll continue to support them with the steady rise of inflation? Will I get laid off next? Will my child/children be the next statistics because the environment is getting worse? Changing the path for youth who lack the confidence to embrace changing the patterns of unintentional consequences can be achieved through collaboration, partnerships and resources. Creating a roadmap to a better tomorrow will depend on the decisions made today. There are long-term gains for short-term sacrifice as being parents, community partners, advocates and adults creating generational wealth. However, even if you’re a natural leader, assuming a new role is still a challenge. It takes an average employee about six weeks to feel comfortable in their job! As a leader in a new position, you probably will feel tempted to start making changes immediately and make an immediate impact. Unless the change is inevitable and urgent, it is best to wait. This mindset to get in there and mix it up straight away results from insecurity and the fear of being seen as not enough. The main point for a new leader is not to impress but to make impactful decisions that will benefit the organisation. So how do you make a smooth transition while demonstrating impeccable leadership qualities? The good news is there are steps you can take to master your new role like a boss and help you get off to a fast and effective start. Most institutions are aware of the struggle and invest money and time in moulding their new leaders. Shift your perspective to fit your new role. After celebrating your win, put effort into changing your mindset approach. Do not succumb to the temptation of incorporating your old job into your new one. You are no longer in the same position or surrounded by the same people. You are now at the top of this pyramid, looking at your former job from a different higher level. Focus on your new responsibilities, and work on having a manageable and consistent schedule. There were mistakes made by the former bosses in the position you are currently in. Many new leaders are sometimes weak in their emotions. The relationship between a boss and the employees ultimately influences the organisation's performance. A good connection with the boss is a great motivation for the employees. As a new leader, share a bit about your personal life, just enough to help your team members relate more to you in person. Do not be too revealing or get overly personal. Only share your vision for the organisation when you feel you know your staff well enough. You do not want to rush into it. To be an impactful leader, you must be inclusive in decision-making. There are so many who are finding themselves in that in-between time where they are changing and they can feel it on a deep level, yet the outcome, the direction, the actualization of this change process has yet to be revealed. What they used to do and how they used to be are clearly no longer an option, yet, where they are going, how they are going to get there, and what this new version of themselves has not yet been made clear. This is a juicy time to simmer in. A time rich with insight, information, and wisdom…if we are open to it. It is an uncomfortable time of the change process. Unknown and uncertain. It is the natural tendency to want to fill this time with something, anything, yet if we can allow ourselves to sit in the unknown and get curious, incredible shifts are possible. Our intuition can be accessed and information emerges. True, authentic, sustainable change cannot be forced. Yes, we absolutely need to give effort in many moments, however, the allowing, the opening, the softening, the space to sit in the unknown and listen, is invaluable and a crucial aspect of creating new pathways in our state of living and being. When we choose to consistently fill the “void” with something that distracts us, numbs us, and keeps us swirling in the same old ways, then we bypass the opportunity to change on a deeply embodied and aligned level. The in-between is scary for a lot of people. It is understandable. Yet, if we want to change ourselves, grow and morph ourselves, then we must take that risk of simmering in that unknown place. That is how we open up new channels of possibility in ourselves. A great example is if you’re giving up an addiction of any kind there is that time “in limbo”. There is that in-between time when you know that you are done with the old behavior and addiction, yet have not stepped fully into the next realm of existing without it. I had a client say that she was “bored” now that her consumption and obsession with food was diminishing. My response was to shift from the “boredom” into curiosity. To become curious about what else stimulates her, engages her, inspires her. To encourage the spaciousness and to allow herself to explore in those realms. She chose to write and pull out some art supplies to enhance her process. A beautiful choice! If we can *not* fill every crevice of our lives while we are in midst of a change process (even with “good” stuff) and rather truly allow the spaciousness, that is where the gold lies. That’s when we begin to be able to transform ourselves and our lives from the inside out on a sustainable and embodied level. What can we *do* in those in-between moments that will serve our unfolding? (Again, it is that fine line of doing vs. not doing. The below are suggestions of “healthy” and “productive” outlet of enhancing our human life process) Drop into your body: Track your sensations in your body, tune into the pulse of your breath, feel your heart beating, get onto the ground and allow the earth to hold you through your body. Move from your own inner guidance, fill your cells with life-force energy, follow your impulses without an agenda. Tap into creative outlets: Dance, Paint, Draw, Write, Create! Give the subconscious voice and shape through creativity. Go outside into nature (yes, even if it is 3 degrees!): Nature is the ultimate healer. Sometimes just stepping outside into the elements will enliven something deep within. Listen to a guided visualization/podcast/talk: Immerse oneself in something inspiring and growth enhancing. Meditation: Have I mentioned lately that I truly believe that meditation practice is essential for every single thing in life? (Those of you whom have been reading my words for a long time have certainly gotten that memo!) Meditation is the gateway to your heart, to your soul, to your truth. Spending time in quiet meditation every day, preferably first thing in the morning, will support you in every way to access next steps in your life, work with your mind to utilize your neurochemistry to support your process, and gain insight into your most aligned and integral self. Create in the Kitchen: Nourish your body, your soul, and your senses through cooking or baking something delicious and nutritious. This serves so many purposes in feeding ourselves and our families and also immersing us into a tangible and creative project. Savor the Quiet: Leaning into and savoring quiet moments in life will propel your growth and unfolding to the next level and beyond. Learning how to sit in the quiet, to just BE in the quiet, to melt into the quiet is an invaluable life skill. What is changing in you? Do you know what it is that you are letting go of, releasing, putting to rest? Wherever your path of life may find you right now, can you surrender to it? Soften and lean into it? Open up to the possibility that this is exactly where you’re supposed to be right now? And, accept yourself, your circumstances and your situations for exactly as you are, and as they are right now. Allow yourself to empty...to create space from within...to get curious...to hear those inner stirrings...and, to listen to what's next...unattached, open, and receptive. So, what business trends and buzzwords started in 2022 and that every professional should know about? Here are five of them: 1. Remote work and its counterparts, such as hybrid work: the pandemic has seen a rise in remote work, a trend that has continued well after many offices opened up again and companies resumed their usual work routine. One thing is for sure, remote work is here to stay because its flexibility opened up many possibilities for employees, employers, and entrepreneurs. It has allowed them to create the work-life balance they have always wanted. It also freed the time they spent preparing to go to the office and commuting ‒ time they are now using to spend with their loved ones, or practice activities they enjoy. On top of this, there is the Great resignation wave that many employers and companies have experienced, where employees are leaving the workplace en masse to seek better opportunities and more work-life balance. This led to a definitive change in the work landscape where many companies have started adopting remote and hybrid work to create a better working environment for their employees and retain top talent. 2. Quiet quitting: this happens when an employee decides to quit their job without actually quitting. In other words, they have stopped being productive and invested in their job and are simply doing the minimum that is needed of them in order not to lose their position. This is also referred to as "ghosting" or "the fade away”. One of the main reasons why quiet quitting happens is because employees feel unappreciated and/or undervalued at their company. They might feel like their contributions are not being properly recognized, or that there is a lack of career advancement opportunities for them. They may also feel that the company culture does not align with their values or that they do not have a good work-life balance. There are many things that employers can do to prevent quiet quitting because it can negatively affect the morale of the rest of their staff, as well as the company's performance as a whole. They can also improve communication between the different members, practice transparency, and implement a fair process that allows for constructive feedback and open dialogue between the management and the employees. Career cushioning: this is a concept that was inspired by the dating world and that bridged over to the business world. Career cushioning means keeping your career options open while still having a job. Employees usually do this when they feel underappreciated in their current job role or because they feel threatened. Therefore, they seek multiple job opportunities and diverse sources of income for them to have a safety net. In recent years, there have been a lot of changes in the business world, such as massive shifts in the job market, downsizing and lay-offs, financial threats to several companies, and so forth. To counter this and protect themselves, employees started practicing career cushioning to feel more secure ‒ in case the worse happens; they have other sources of income. Another reason employees may revert to career cushioning is to have the ability to work on multiple projects and hone different skills. This allows them to become more adaptable should one of their skills or one of the industries they operate in, come crashing down. Career cushioning can negatively impact the performance of employees, and there are many measures employers can undertake to prevent it, such as providing employees with opportunities for professional development, readapting job descriptions and encouraging internal mobility. They can also provide them with benefits, flexibility and a work culture that is founded on transparency, trust, and open communication. 4. Productivity paranoia: refers to the state of fear many employees experience when they are under constant pressure to always outperform themselves. In the last few years, companies have become more and more focused on maximizing the efficiency of their employees, indirectly pressuring them always to give more. This, in turn, creates a negative cycle and a toxic working environment. When employees are given unrealistic demands or have overly tight deadlines to meet, they will start experiencing productivity paranoia, which will eventually become counterproductive. They might also be micromanaged and given little control over their work. This usually happens when there is no communication and a lack of trust between employees and their managers. If not remedied quickly, the situation can escalate, and employees will feel unmotivated. They will eventually underperform. To remedy this, employers can provide employees with the autonomy they need to complete their work. They can hold them accountable by setting specified KPIs and reasonable deadlines, then give them the flexibility and appropriate room for them to maneuver their work as they see fit. This approach, amongst different measures that need to be implemented, can help them counteract productivity paranoia, foster a positive work culture, retain talent, and improve the company’s performance. 5. Quiet firing : From all the business trends and buzzwords we have seen so far, this one is the most damaging to both the employees and the employer. Quiet firing is similar to quiet quitting but from the employers’ perspective. It refers to when an employer decides to terminate employment without prior notice or explanation to the person they are firing. There are many reasons why employers may choose to quietly fire an employee, such as believing that the performance of their employee is not up to their expectations, or that they are not meeting the company’s objectives. They might also simply not have the required skills to do the job properly. When employers revert to quiet quitting, they usually want to avoid having to face the employee and explain the situation. They might also want to avoid any legal action or negative publicity, which is counterproductive in this situation because quiet firing creates a situation of mistrust and unrest amongst the remaining employees. Quiet firing is not recommended as it affects the morale of the employees, and their performance, and will eventually have repercussions on the company’s reputation.
