If you know me, you know I quite enjoy calling out what I like to call “spiritual bullshit” because, well, in this day and (new) age, there are mounds of it. There is now, more than ever, a plethora of misleading metaphysical teachings not only diverting people off their paths but also straight into the ditch of unconsciousness and ego-based living, all while being prettily packaged as divine fact.

From the manifestation myth to the real “secret” of how the “Law of Attraction” has been presented to us in a mainstream manner so far from accuracy that it’s cruel, to one of my personal favorites, the teaching that if something “feels good,” it is, and we should act on it. I mean, I’m sure getting high on meth feels great for a meth user, right? Meanwhile, I’m quite confident that Stevie Wonder could see there could be no benefit to using meth. There are many nuggets of spiritual guidance nudging us anywhere but towards a higher way of living.
The make-believe of mystical misinformation that I will be putting on blast in this article is the “my truth” movement. You know, the seemingly Soul-permitting act of speaking “your truth” at all costs under the guise of self-empowerment and honoring one’s divine self.
Don’t get me wrong. Authentic expression is a good thing and is something we all should allow for ourselves and each other, in a respectful manner, of course. The problem is, just because it’s “your truth” or “my truth” doesn’t in the slightest mean that it is the truth.
Although all human beings’ feelings are valid, just because we feel something doesn’t make it true. As much as we’re allowed to feel whatever we feel, it doesn’t make those feelings correct based on the reality of any given situation. No, perception is most certainly not necessarily reality. Like our feelings, just because we perceive something to be a certain way doesn’t mean it actually is that way.
Every single one of us perceives the external world through the filter of our internal worlds, which are dictated by our past experiences and conditioning at the hands of those experiences and the influential people in our lives. As Anaïs Nin notably said, “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.”
So what’s the big deal if we just enable each other to speak “our” respective truths confidently? It’s not a big deal at all, really, provided we’re consciously aware of the fact that it doesn’t mean it’s the actual fucking truth.
The issue arises when “your” or “my” truth is confused with the truth, which can only cause us to remain stuck in levels of unconsciousness that bring us anywhere but the truth and, therefore, enable us to continue living a lie–a lie that may easily be keeping us from true healing, freedom, and a level of authenticity required to truly live the life our Soul has incarnated to experience.
The “my truth” movement is too often nothing but an egoic justification for one’s often trauma-fueled feelings, and if one is living from ego, then we sure as shit are not living from the Soul.
If we’re not living from the Soul, we sure as shit aren’t living from the truth. If we’re not living the Truth, we’re barely living at all. That's a big fucking deal.
