There is a conversation happening right now around GLP-1 medications Ozempic, Wegovy, and others that is getting a lot of attention. While many are focused on weight loss, very few are talking about what is actually happening inside the body. Let me be clear. Weight loss does not automatically mean health.

A woman in a purple dress speaks on stage, pointing to a screen displaying insulin pens. Dimly lit audience in foreground.

As a woman who has spent over four decades in the health, fitness, and wellness space, I can tell you this: the body is not working against you. It is always responding to how it is being supported.

GLP-1 medications work by suppressing appetite. This creates a calorie deficit, which leads to weight loss. On the surface, that may seem like the solution many women have been searching for. But beneath the surface, there is a deeper story unfolding.

When the body is not properly fueled, especially with enough protein and essential nutrients, it does not just lose fat. It also begins to break down muscle and muscle is not just about how you look. Muscle is your metabolic engine.

It supports your strength, your stability, your blood sugar regulation, and your ability to maintain long-term results. When muscle is lost, metabolism slows down. When metabolism slows down, the body becomes more vulnerable to weight regain, fatigue, and imbalance.

This is where many women begin to feel frustrated. They lose the weight, but they don’t feel stronger. They don’t feel more energized. Over time, the body begins to shift back. Because the root issue was never addressed. The real conversation we need to be having is about metabolic health.

Metabolic health is how your body processes and uses energy. It is directly connected to insulin sensitivity, blood sugar stability, hormone balance, and nervous system regulation. If these systems are not supported, no amount of weight loss will create true transformation.

GLP-1 medications are not the enemy. They can be a supportive tool when used with proper guidance. But they are not the solution on their own.

Because you cannot override the body’s needs and expect it to thrive. You cannot suppress hunger and ignore nourishment. You cannot lose weight and neglect strength. You cannot focus on the scale and ignore the nervous system.

This is where a more wholistic approach becomes essential. The focus needs to shift from “how do I lose weight” to “how do I support my body.”

That means: Fueling your body with adequate protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Engaging in strength-based training to build and maintain muscle, supporting your nervous system through rest, recovery, and regulation, and honoring the body’s signals instead of silencing them.

When a woman begins to do this, everything changes. She becomes stronger. Her energy stabilizes. Her metabolism begins to work with her instead of against her and most importantly, she builds a foundation that supports longevity, independence, and confidence.

This is not about quick fixes. This is about alignment. Because the body does not need to be forced into change. It needs to be supported into transformation.

So if you are navigating this conversation around GLP-1, take a step back and ask yourself: Am I just trying to lose weight, or am I ready to truly support the woman I am becoming? That is where the real shift begins.
