This month, in Part 9 of Re-Awaken Your Creativity to Live a Better Life, I’ll share what I’ve learned about how creativity manifests uniquely through you.

You Are Creativity Brought to Life

The endless and boundless creative nature of the universe is evident everywhere and in everything. Take a good look at different trees, plants, cats, or dogs. See if you can find any two that are the same.

Every single living organism is unique. There are no copies of anything that originates in nature: snowflakes, fingerprints, and you, your brain, body, and spirit.

Copies can only come from humans. Copies come from what humans already know and have already experienced. No copy or iteration can be entirely new, original, or authentic. What comes from nature, your original nature, is always so.

As humans, we are designed to live through creative thought in the moment, not through thought derived from the past.

If you want to create something wholly yours, it must come from the source, from that deep well of creativity inside yourself. By nurturing your internal creativity, new ideas emerge, new possibilities arise, and new solutions occur.

Any problem can be solved, and any issue can be remedied by allowing creative thought to emerge naturally. Creativity informs our very human design.

Creativity is Unique to You

Because creativity is unique to you, your manifestation of whatever you create will be unlike anyone else’s. Through your individual experiences, interpretation, and imagination, you can create something that no one else can. This is true for every human.

Think about how you write, how you sit, or how you wear your hair. Everything you do is unique. You can copy a hairstyle, but it will look different on your head with your hair. Even the way you hold a coffee cup isn’t exactly the same as anyone else. Notice how everyone has a different way of talking or walking.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein

You can only do you. When you try to be someone else, you come off as false and inauthentic. It’s impossible to live a naturally creative life by wanting to be someone else from who you are. Instead, allow your true nature to shine.

Nature is infinitely and intricately original, whether it comes through a flower, a stream, a bird, or you. When you allow your natural creative power to express itself, whatever results will be original and uniquely yours.

My Journey

How have I fared in connecting with my unique creativity? I take notice every day to see where I am creative. When I write a blog post, make a meal, choose my clothes for the day, or arrange the plants in my kitchen, every choice is my creative expression.

I can look back and see where creativity in my decision-making took me in unknown and beneficial directions. But, when I suppressed or tried to control my creativity, my decision-making resulted in unfavorable situations.

My creativity diminishes and disappears when I let fear, self-doubt, and self-criticism rule my life. Life becomes more of a struggle and less free-flowing. When I connect with myself instead of trying to be someone I am not, my life improves immensely, even if I don’t see it right away.

What happens ultimately is not in our control, and we may not see the benefits for a long time, but if we stay true and don’t question what life serves up, we’ll live our authentic lives the way nature intends.

Think of the parable of the old man who lost his horse. When one door closes, another opens. We don’t always see the benefit of what life sends our way, but nature’s wisdom always comes through if we stay open and accepting.

Your Life is a Daily Creative Endeavor

Creativity is constantly renewing, changing, evolving. It is never static. Your life is the same; it is never static even when you think it is. The key is to recognize the creative force in your life. And know that every aspect of your life is a creative experience.

Don’t force yourself into someone else’s idea of life. Instead, live your own, the one meant just for you. Live the life that brings you completely alive.

“Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.” Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Live your own life and play your own music!
