How To Live Creatively

If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you. ‒ The Gospel of Thomas

While living from your creative power is a way of being, not doing, there are some ideas to keep in mind to support your journey.

  1. When your thoughts are high, slow down and still your mind.

  2. Thoughts are clouds. Let them come and go. Don’t hold on to them.

  3. Feelings are your guideposts. You’ll know what to do if you become attuned to how you feel.

  4. Take the first step.

  5. If it brings you pleasure, keep going. If it causes stress, change it, or let it go.

  6. Ask for help when you need it.

  7. Release all judgement and expectation. Embrace whatever arises from your creative power.

My Journey

When the explorer is ready, the guide will appear. ‒ Himalayan saying

I’ve shared with you some of my journey into the nature of creative living, but it’s my journey. Yours will be different.

My journey is taking me into new projects and possibilities, one step at a time. When I get stuck, confused, or stressed, I bring myself back to the present moment. I release thoughts of expectation, judgment, and fear that stand in my way. In listening and trusting my inner creative voice, I allow my authentic nature to shine.

Embrace Your Creativity

The whole world is a series of miracles, but we’re so used to them, we call them ordinary things. – Hans Christian Anderson

Don’t follow anyone else’s path but explore for yourself what your journey is. You are never too old or too young because creativity is ageless. And because creativity is infinite, you can create anything.

Everything new comes from someone’s inner creative force. You can release your own power and live an extraordinary life; however, you define it. Dare to go where no one has gone before.

Creativity is possibility, not control.

Travelers, there is no path. Paths are made by walking. ‒ Antonio Machado

You can’t control your thinking, so don’t waste that energy. It will exhaust you.

Instead, practice letting go of your thinking to allow your creativity to emerge. When you get mired in your thoughts, take a break. Go for a walk, connect with nature, sit on the porch with a cup of tea. Encourage your mind to settle.

When you tune into your inner creativity, new and original thoughts will arise. These are the thoughts to explore.

You are the explorer. Creativity is the guide.

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī was a 13th-century Persian Sufi mystic, poet, and theologian.

Born to an Afghani family of highly regarded Sufi scholars, he lived most of his life in Turkey.

I leave you with some excerpts from the poems of Rumi to inspire your journey. Thank you for joining me and I wish you a joyously creative future.

Start your lives over. Everyone is totally forgiven, no matter what.

Go on a journey from self to Self, my friend... Such a journey transforms the earth into a mine of gold.

But don’t be satisfied with stories, How things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth, Without complicated explanation, So everyone will understand the passage that has been opened for you.

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of distress and anxiety, if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without any pain, from this, I understand that what I want also wants me, and is looking for me and attracting me, there’s a great secret in this for all who can grasp it.

Respond to every call that excites your spirit.
