In this piece, I will describe the themes I experienced during my plant medicine ceremonies. Plant medicine ceremonies often involve dried, shriveled mushrooms that you chew and swallow without water. The process is sacred and typically begins with pulling an oracle card, setting an intention, and journaling. The ceremony would open with a meditation or opening of the directions.

Cluster of brown mushrooms on a mossy log with a vibrant red leaf in the background, surrounded by green foliage, creates a serene scene.

During the ceremony, participants lie down on mats while being surrounded by the sounds of drums, sound bowls, or simply the ambiance of Mother Nature.

Throughout the ceremony, I experienced significant emotional releases. I saw vivid imagery, such as flying with eagles and walking with black panthers and also gained insights into my parent’s neuropathy. I reflected on the times my parent could have chosen to walk away and the times she should have moved toward something instead. Another time, an entity was removed from me, tracing back generations in my family.

Reiki and rattles were used, along with some grounding techniques. After these experiences, we returned with drums, spent some time lying still, journaled, and then shared our experiences with one another. The ceremony concluded with a closing of the directions, and we gathered to enjoy a vegan snack together. We discussed our experiences.

These events have profoundly changed my thinking and feelings toward others, leading to a deeper understanding of their paths.

I would recommend plant medicine if

  • You are not pregnant or on prescription medication.

  • You seek a deeper level of healing.

  • You wish to gain insights relevant to your experience at the time.

There are many people popping up, saying they can help you heal and transform, but not all ceremonies are created equal. What should you watch out for?

  • If offered a pill instead of a visible plant, be cautious, as this differs significantly from a traditional sacred ceremony.

  • Ensure you know exactly what you are consuming, or the experience may feel more like a drug than a sacred ritual.

  • Confirm that the ceremony provides special accommodations for your dietary needs, comfort, and privacy.

  • An opening prayer should call in spirits for the highest good, and there should be smudging to cleanse guests upon entering.

  • Make sure everyone is grounded and well before leaving the ceremony.

  • Assess the experience and knowledge of the practitioner to ensure they align with your values.

  • If you are participating outside your home country, research the companies involved beforehand.

I have spent the first 35 years of my professional life in the design and construction industry, and that has served me well. My awakening to the 5D level of consciousness started with the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. This event has changed my world, like so many others. I have no Western medicine training in healing; it has been my God given intuition that has healed me many times.

As a child, I had many illnesses: mono, pneumonia, countless ear infections, strep throat, and appendectomy. I was also a clutzy, really skinny kid. I also received an ADD diagnosis at the age of 2, in 1971, which was unheard of at that time.
