“I’m terrified of what the cards will say!” A session with an intuitive Tarot reader is definitely not a parlor trick, witchcraft, or anything dark!

Television and movies have fueled endless myths about Tarot reading. They often depict a darkly clad reader flipping over the Death card, followed by an immediate tragedy. But real Tarot doesn't work that way! The cards are purely symbolic. For example, the Death card rarely means physical death. Instead, it symbolizes a natural ending and a natural rebirth.
Additionally, Tarot does not predict an unchangeable future. Because of free will, an individual is always in charge of creating their own future.
So exactly what is a Tarot reading?
This 78-card deck originated in fifth-century France as a card game for the aristocracy. Over time, it was recognized that the symbols on the cards represent many human archetypes and life situations.
By the early 20th century, a British mystic, Edward Arthur Waite, along with artist Pamela Colman Smith, created the highly recognizable Rider-Waite-Smith deck we see used today. The cards symbolize the current energy around a situation and help individuals connect with their own intuition. Under the guidance of a professional reader, a Tarot reading is a visual mirror. It reflects a person’s own energy, validating what their intuition already knows.
What exactly is intuition?
Everyone is born with it. We have all experienced a "gut feeling" about a person or a situation. Think about these common moments:
Walking into a room and immediately sensing the vibe, whether there was just a massive argument or a lively party.
Meeting someone for the first time and instantly feeling drawn to them or, conversely, feeling a wave of "icky" energy.
Picking up the phone to call someone, only to find they are calling you at the exact same time.
Why is it hard to trust our intuition?
In a busy world packed with work, responsibilities, and constant social media noise, slowing down to "listen" is tough. True inner knowing requires a quiet space, a pause to breathe, step back, and ask for guidance.
Because finding that stillness is so difficult, partnering with an intuitive reader can help you quiet the noise and tune back into your own wisdom.

Connie Gable is a retired Family Nurse Practitioner, intuitive Tarot reader, and founder of Mystic Tarot Wisdom. From childhood, Connie experienced intuitive knowing and precognitive dreams, but it wasn't until later in life that she was called to rediscover and embrace these gifts. Today, she views Tarot as a sacred mirror- a way to quiet the mind, listen more deeply to the heart, and connect with the wisdom of the soul. Drawing on her years of caring for others as a nurse, Connie creates a safe and sacred space where intuition, insight, and healing can unfold. Her work is rooted in the belief that we are each on a unique journey of awakening, remembering who we really are and the wisdom we have carried within us all along.
