Carla dos Santos, SEO Coach & Specialist

In the world of digital marketing, few have the experience and expertise of Carla dos Santos. With over 20 years of navigating the ever-evolving SEO landscape, Carla is now a sought-after SEO coach, empowering entrepreneurs to reclaim their digital authority. We had the privilege of sitting down with her to discuss how she helps businesses not just survive but thrive online.

1. Who is Carla dos Santos?

"I often describe myself as an architect of systems—both digital and physical. Professionally, I am an SEO Coach with over 20 years of experience navigating the shifting tides of the internet. My career has taken me from the early days of digital tourism in the late '90s to leading C-suite strategies and managing teams of over 125 specialists. Today, I’ve pivoted from the corporate boardroom to the intimate space of high-impact coaching, where I help entrepreneurs reclaim their organic authority.

At home, my life is a blend of the macro and the micro. I am deeply fascinated by astronomy and cosmology; there is something incredibly grounding about studying the vast, governed systems of the universe. It mirrors how I view SEO—as a complex ecosystem that rewards those who understand its underlying laws. When I want to disconnect from the digital world, I turn to woodwork. There is a specific peace found in the precision of the grain and the patience required to build something meant to last for generations."

2. What inspired you to become The SEO Coach?

"After two decades in the industry, I noticed a recurring, systemic problem: the 'Agency Gap.' Many businesses were paying high retainers for reports they didn't understand, while agencies were keeping their methods in a 'black box' to maintain dependency. I realised that my greatest impact wouldn't come from just doing the work for people, but from empowering them to understand it. I became 'The SEO Coach' to move from a transactional model to a transformational one—giving leaders the knowledge and confidence to own their digital narrative rather than renting it from an agency."

3. How would you explain SEO to someone who has never heard of it?

"I describe SEO as the art of Digital Intuition. Imagine the internet as a vast, global library with billions of books, but no librarian. Search Engine Optimisation is simply the process of organising your 'book' so clearly that when someone walks in with a specific problem, the library automatically hands them your pages as the best possible solution. It’s about making sure your expertise is findable, readable, and trustworthy for the human on the other side of the screen."

4. What specific results do you help your clients achieve?

"Beyond the standard metrics of traffic and rankings, I help my clients build Digital Equity. Specifically, we focus on three outcomes:

  1. Sustainable Organic Growth: Reducing the expensive reliance on paid advertising.

  2. Authority Dominance: Ensuring they are recognised as the 'go-to' experts in their niche through E-E-A-T principles.

  3. High-Intent Lead Generation: Attracting the right visitors who are ready to engage with their solution. My goal is to turn their website into an asset that appreciates in value over time."

5. Who is your ideal client and what challenges are they facing?

"My ideal clients are 'Invisible Experts'—established business owners or mission-led entrepreneurs who have spent years mastering their craft but find that their online presence doesn't reflect their real-world brilliance. Usually, they are frustrated by inconsistent traffic or feel overwhelmed by 'algorithm anxiety.' They know they have the best solution, but they are tired of being outranked by competitors who have louder marketing but shallower expertise."

6. What makes your approach different?

"Most agencies focus on output—how many blogs they can write or how many links they can build. My approach focuses on Partnership and Extraction. I believe that the 'Experience' and 'Expertise' required for modern SEO already exist within my clients; my job is to extract that gold and architect it into a strategy that Google can validate. I am a Google Analytics certified practitioner who rejects the 'mystery' of SEO. I am a transparent partner, teaching my clients the 'why' behind the 'how' so they never feel lost in the data again."

7. Can you share a client success story?

"I recently worked with a client who had been hit hard by a major 'Helpful Content' algorithm update. They were devastated and felt their years of hard work had vanished overnight. Through our partnership, we didn't just fix the technical errors; we overhauled their content strategy to focus on their unique, first-hand experience. Within six months, they didn't just recover their previous traffic—they surpassed it by 40%, but more importantly, their conversion rate doubled. They moved from a place of fear to a place of total control over their organic growth."

8. What are the common SEO mistakes and how do you fix them?

"The most common mistake is 'Writing for Robots.' Many businesses over-optimise their content to the point where it loses its human soul. I fix this through my C-I-D-D Framework, which prioritises User Intent and Psychological Trust. Another mistake is neglecting 'Technical Trust'—having a brilliant message on a website that is slow or poorly structured. We fix this by aligning the brand’s technical 'skeleton' with its creative 'heart.'"

9. How do you help clients improve visibility and attract traffic?

"Visibility is the result of Strategic Alignment. We start by identifying exactly what your audience is searching for when they are in 'solution-seeking mode.' We then optimise the site’s architecture to ensure search engines can easily find and index your best work. Finally, we leverage E-E-A-T to prove your authority, using data-backed insights to create content that is genuinely more helpful than anything else available."

10. What should someone expect when working with you?

"Expect a deep, collaborative mentorship. We begin with a comprehensive 'Authority Audit'—a look under the bonnet of your digital presence. You should expect honesty, transparency, and a focus on long-term strategy rather than 'growth hacks.' I am a calm guide in a loud industry; I provide the roadmap, the education, and the technical oversight, but we walk the path together as partners."
