Ikea And Swedish House Mafia Unveil First Collaborations

Milan Design Week will see the unveiling of the first furniture designs created by Ikea and iconic electronic music artists Swedish House Mafia.

More than 20 pieces are promised including “interior solutions and accessories for up and coming music producers, DJs, and all creators with limited means but unlimited creativity”.

The first launches, however, are three different takes on the Ikea Frakta bag. “Frakta is one of those Ikea classics that everyone has. We wanted to do our take on it from a music creation perspective depending on what type of gear you carry with you on the go. Our different takes on the bag are themes shared for the whole collection. All items in the collection have a timeless theme with a distinct trace of our DNA", says Swedish House Mafia.

Designer Friso Wiersma explained that the three bags all have one purpose - to solve the issues of bringing records out to a set; carrying a clutter of cables and lugging your laptop around. He shared how Swedish House Mafia “brought and shared years of experience of making and touring with music to the table”. One bag is an accessory bag equipped with compartments; another, is a padded shoulder bag fit for a laptop and finally, the last design can go from small to large in a quick zip, “perfectly square in shape to hold vinyl records”, says Ikea.

More designs are due to be unveiled on 9th June.
