There is something we can learn from our children. Something so unique. They can teach us many things, and after 19 years of raising three, they point so many things out to me. And it is time I shared this story beyond my four walls.

One morning my son got up for school, and he noticed something different, he had a new pair of shoes. The old ones had lasted a while, but they were ripped, battered, and bruised.

Pretty upset, he cried, "why do I have to wear a new pair of shoes?? I love my old ones.”

“They are ripped, and you have fallen over and bruised yourself too many times,” I replied

“But, I do not like these new shoes.” He said. “They are too tight; they also smell of something; the size is too big for my running.”

“Ok, eat your breakfast and then decide.”

“Well, I decided... my choice, my right.”

I walk away and leave him to his decision.

A little while later, he comes to the door and bends down to sit on the cold floor, putting on his feet (from what I could see) his brand new shoes and smiling pretty happily. He then went to the car and got in next to me, piquing my curiosity.

"What made you decide on the new shoes?" I say.

"I have calmed down now. Thank you.”

The moral of this true story is this. When we experience something new, we may experience many emotions such as anger and resistance. We may say things like; I do not want to do this; I prefer the old one, even think of many reasons not to do something. These reasons are perfectly valid, and sometimes we need a moment alone to think things through differently.

Why? Because the old things as our mindset patterns may be the things tripping us up in all aspects of our lives when they are a little battered and bruised too and may need a little upgrading, like a new pair of shoes.
