Sharee Shefket, Mindset Results Coach

Can you share your personal journey that led you to become a mindset coach?

My journey began during a challenging period of my life. I faced significant personal setbacks, including being randomly attacked by an unknown man. During this time, I discovered the power of mindset and resilience. Even though I was professionally counselling at the time, which helped, the anger buildup and PTSD were difficult to manage. I understood that healing would be a long road, and I was impatient. I knew it might take years before I truly recovered from this attack, and traditional talking therapy was not going to be enough for me. Therefore, I wanted to learn how I could recover quickly. I delved into hypnotherapy and other modalities that worked predominantly with the subconscious mind to give me the results I needed. That was the start of my new career in the coaching world.

How did your own mindset evolve over the years, and what were the key influences?

Initially, as a young adult, I had a fixed mindset, believing that my circumstances defined me. However, through resilience and the practice of gratitude, I learned that I could change my narrative. Influential figures, such as authors and motivational speakers, inspired me to embrace a growth mindset, which ultimately transformed my life.

After going through some of those major life events, I decided to focus on what I could control. I began practicing gratitude daily, writing down three things I was thankful for each morning. This simple practice shifted my perspective and helped me see the silver linings in my struggles, which became a cornerstone of my coaching philosophy.

How would you define a “growth mindset,” and why is it important for personal development?

A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. It’s crucial for personal development because it encourages individuals to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and persist in the face of setbacks. This mindset fosters resilience and opens the door to continuous learning and improvement.

What are the core principles of your coaching approach?

My coaching approach is built on three core principles: resilience, gratitude, and reprogramming. I believe that cultivating resilience helps clients navigate life’s challenges, gratitude shifts their focus to the positive, allowing them to treat themselves with kindness during tough times, and reprogramming is uninstalling limiting thinking that keeps them stuck in the past.

How do you differentiate between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset in your clients?

Clients with a fixed mindset often express defeat when faced with challenges, believing their abilities are static. In contrast, those with a growth mindset view obstacles as opportunities for growth. I help clients identify their thought patterns and encourage them to reframe their challenges through a lens of possibility and learning.

What specific techniques do you use to help clients shift their mindset?

I use techniques such as shadow values, visualization, and gratitude exercises. For instance, I guide clients to keep a gratitude journal, where they write down things they appreciate daily. This practice helps them shift their focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant in their lives.

Can you share a success story where a client experienced a significant mindset transformation?

One client came to me feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts and self-doubt. Through our sessions, we focused on gratitude, reframing her narrative, and, most importantly, changing the self-limiting beliefs she was holding onto. Over time, she began to recognize her strengths and accomplishments. By the end of our coaching, she not only secured a new job but also felt empowered to pursue her passions, which was a remarkable transformation.

How do you incorporate mindfulness or meditation into your coaching practice?

I often incorporate mindfulness practices, such as guided meditations focused on gratitude. These sessions help clients centre themselves and cultivate a deeper appreciation for their lives. Mindfulness allows them to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, creating space for positive change.

What common obstacles do your clients face when trying to change their mindset?

Many clients struggle with ingrained negative thought patterns and self-criticism. They often find it difficult to believe in their ability to change. I remind them that resilience is built over time and that small, consistent efforts can lead to significant shifts.

How do you help clients overcome self-doubt and limiting beliefs?

I encourage clients to challenge their limiting beliefs by questioning their validity. We work together to reframe these beliefs into empowering affirmations. Additionally, I utilize a method called Psych-K that can remove self-limiting beliefs that they may have had their whole life. For example, that they are not worthy of love, this can be achieved in just one session.

What advice do you give to someone who feels stuck in a negative mindset?

I advise them to start a gratitude practice. Even on tough days, finding just one thing to be grateful for can shift their perspective. I also encourage them to seek support, whether through coaching, therapy, or community, as connection can be a powerful catalyst for change.

What daily practices do you personally engage in to maintain a positive mindset?

I start each day with a gratitude ritual, writing down three things I’m thankful for. I also practice mindfulness meditation to ground myself. These practices help me stay focused on the present and cultivate a positive outlook.

How do you handle setbacks or challenges in your own life?

When I face setbacks, I remind myself of my resilience and the lessons I’ve learned. I allow myself to feel the emotions, but then shift my focus to gratitude and what I can learn from the experience. This approach helps me bounce back stronger.

Who or what inspires you in your work as a mindset coach?

I’m inspired by my clients’ journeys and their courage to confront their challenges. Additionally, I draw inspiration from thought leaders in personal development, whose insights continue to fuel my passion for coaching.

What trends do you see emerging in the field of personal development and mindset coaching?

I see a growing emphasis on mental health and emotional well-being, with more people recognizing the importance of mindset in achieving overall wellness. I see physical health and mental health having an equal weighting. Additionally, technology is playing a role, with apps and online platforms making coaching more accessible.

What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own journey of personal development?

Start small. Begin by setting achievable goals. Surround yourself with positive influences, whether through books, podcasts, or supportive communities. Remember, personal development is a journey, not a destination.

How can readers begin to cultivate a growth mindset in their everyday lives?

Readers can cultivate a growth mindset by embracing challenges and viewing failures as opportunities for growth. They should practice self-reflection and gratitude, recognizing their progress and celebrating small wins along the way.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned through your work as a mindset coach?

The most important lesson I’ve learned is that resilience is a skill that can be developed. Life will always present challenges, but our ability to respond with gratitude and a growth mindset can transform our experiences. Instead of having the thought, "Why is this happening to me?" change the question and ask, "What can I learn from this experience?"
