There is nothing more that we entrepreneurs want and need than brain power. A sharp, clear, focused, and creative mind is our most valuable asset. Period.

Some of us have great genes and, or perhaps naturally high IQ that gives some brain power advantage. Regardless of where we start with our brainpower, the question is, ‘how do we get the most out of our brain?’

My answer is gut health.

The cleaner we eat, the clearer we think.

The well-functioning gut is the foundation for a well-functioning brain. Have you heard the latest research on the gut-brain connection? There are nine times more signals going from our gut to our brain than vice versa.

When I work with entrepreneurs in streamlining their productivity and performance, they always want to start with how they can do more. They want to be more efficient and effective. They often are so focused on doing more that they neglect to take superb care of their own personal health.

It is so easy to be consumed with working that we entrepreneurs put health symptoms, health practices, homemade food, and the like on the back burner, which over time, diminishes our ability to perform optimally in our businesses.

Investing in a healthy gut is not what most people think of when it comes to mental performance. It is my and my clients' best-kept secret. We track what, when, and why we eat, combined with the energy level, focus, and performance that our food in- take produces. I call it connecting the dots.

Once my clients know the foods that create high energy levels and mental states, then they are empowered to turn on their brains and get their brains to work for them. It is a thrilling experience.

Speaking of turning on our brain... another crucial aspect of having an empowered brain is also the ability to turn it off. There is nothing worse than an over-active brain that wakes us in the night and inhibits sleep. Being able to manage our brain’s thoughts and our body’s stress levels is essential to turning off our brain so that we can sleep as well as be present with our loved ones.

Gut health is not only about food intake; it is also related to stress and lifestyle habits. Having a healthy gut requires a way of living, like a super-athlete wanting to perform at tip-top levels who examines and adjusts every contributing aspect.
