Andra Annette, Founder and Gut Health Expert
What are your titles and years of experience in healthcare?
I am a Registered Nurse (RN, BSN), Board-Certified Holistic Practitioner, and Digestive Health Expert with 40 years of experience in healthcare. My expertise lies in addressing thyroid issues, autoimmune diseases, and conditions stemming from gut imbalances, including hormonal health. My career began as a young volunteer, and my passion for helping others has guided me ever since.
Please tell us more about yourself.
From a young age, I was drawn to healing. My earliest "patients" were neighborhood animals that I nurtured with all the care a child could muster. That innate calling shaped my path to nursing and holistic health. Over the years, I have also become an international best-selling author, blending my passions for health and writing to empower others. I have never let anyone define my limits. If I want something, I put a plan in place and work on that plan.
Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today.
A defining moment in my journey came when I broke my spine and was told I might never walk again. The tough love of the nurses who cared for me, combined with my belief in God's plan, gave me the strength to fight for my recovery. Today, I stand upright as proof that determination and faith can overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
What is your greatest career achievement so far?
My greatest career achievement was being recognized by Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. It was not about the feature itself but what it symbolized: decades of dedication to helping others that opened doors for even greater impact.
How did you build your career until this point?
My career has been shaped by asking necessary questions, challenging the status quo, and committing to lifelong learning. As both a nurse and holistic practitioner, I understand the gravity of being responsible for someone’s well-being. This is not a responsibility I take lightly.
Personal losses and health struggles have instilled in me a deep empathy for those dismissed or misdiagnosed, and I have made it my mission to be the person who truly listens. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I stepped up by hosting groups to answer questions and provide clarity amid confusion. These moments reaffirmed that there is no greater value than helping someone in a meaningful way.
What drives or inspires you?
My mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge to heal their minds and bodies through optimal nutrition, daily movement, and consistent action. Integrity is my core value; it is the foundation of my work and client relationships. I am inspired by the joy I feel every day, knowing I am giving people the tools to prioritize their health and rediscover their confidence.
One of my most rewarding moments came when I asked a hesitant client, "If you believe you’re going to fail, why should I work with you?" She took a day to reflect and returned fully committed. Together, we achieved remarkable results, and she now confidently lives in a body she loves. Her success was her own, but being part of that transformation was an honor.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
I maintain balance by prioritizing what matters most. I dedicate the first two hours of each day to key tasks and set firm boundaries, saying no without guilt. This intentionality allows me to work effectively while reserving time for personal growth and relaxation.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I see myself on a beach, reflecting on the legacy I have created. My goal is to have a business that runs itself while helping people worldwide believe in their potential and fully commit to themselves.
Who inspires you to be the best you can be?
My late sister, a guiding light in my life, remains my biggest influence. Her memory inspires me to strive for excellence and compassion. My husband’s unwavering support also fuels my drive, even when he does not fully understand my vision. As a nurse, I have always admired Florence Nightingale, whose courage to challenge norms and fill a need has deeply inspired me.
What is your business name, and what makes it unique?
My business, Pounds-to-Go, is rooted in my personal healing journey. The name reflects the mantra I held close during my struggles: "Pounds to go—and I’ll get there." It is a name that resonates with clients because it speaks to aspirations in a personal, relatable way.
How do you help your clients?
I help clients with autoimmune diseases, thyroid issues, and other conditions stemming from gut health by treating every individual as unique. Through thorough assessments, I identify the core issue, the system that first fell out of balance, and rebuild from there. My approach integrates the mind, body, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of health.
What inspired you to create your business?
Pounds-to-Go was born during the COVID-19 pandemic when misinformation was rampant. I saw the need for real answers and knew I could help people in meaningful ways by combining my expertise with a personal touch.
What services do you offer, and how do they address your clients' needs?
I offer one-on-one consultations, masterclasses, group challenges, courses, and published resources. These services provide the knowledge, tools, and support clients need to achieve their goals. Often, the biggest challenges my clients face are misinformation and low self-confidence. By delivering quick wins and actionable steps, I help them rebuild trust in their bodies.
If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?
I would change the assumption that one-size-fits-all solutions can address deeply individual problems. Everyone’s journey is unique, shaped by personal challenges. Quick fixes often cause more harm than good. I teach my clients simpler, sustainable ways to heal and thrive, challenging the misconception that diseases are incurable or that weight loss requires extreme restriction.
