Dark And Grimy Batman Reboot Set To Swoop To Screens In Spring 2022

Robert Pattinson is taking up the mantle (or cape) to become Batman in a standalone movie, which will hit screens in the US on 4th March.

The Batman will track the superhero’s early crime fighting exploits with critics predicting a wilder and more unhinged version of the caped crusader. Playing The Penguin, Batman’s nemesis, is Colin Farrell, Paul Dano becomes The Riddler, whilst Zoe Kravitz takes on the role of Catwoman – a character she has voiced in the LEGO Batman film.

The director is Matt Reeves, who was behind Cloverfield, Let Me In and The Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. But critics are already bemused as the trailer that seems to more than echo the work of Chris Nolan and his Batman offering. “We’ve got Robert Pattinson sounding a lot like Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne (close your eyes and they’ll sound identical), Andy Serkis sounding not unlike Michael Caine’s Alfred, and certain moments (Batman shooting upward on the grappling hook, Batman beating up thugs in a dimly-lit nightclub) that aren’t just tropes of the mythology but staged and film in a way that can’t help but remind you of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight,” writes Scott Mendelson at Forbes.

The film, whose opening was delayed twice by the Pandemic, is being brought to the screens by Warner Bros. and DC. Other major releases slated from the DC Universe next year include Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam; Ezra Miller in The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Looks like Batman has more than his usual role of villains to fight off.
