Creating on Your Own Terms, a Working Session for Entrepreneurs

This upcoming July 13 limited session is built around a facilitated structure, and four founding commitments, designed to produce an encounter with one’s own vision that neither strategy nor conventional coaching has been able to provide.

New York, NY, presenting “Creating on Your Own Terms,” a two-hour peer working session for established entrepreneurs, speakers, and writers who have built something real, and who carry, with the particular conviction that only years of building can produce, the knowledge that what they are doing and what it could become are not yet the same thing.
Led by K. Joia Houheneka, Excellence Coach and Founder of both Open Horizons Coaching and Gold Standards Magazine, the session is designed not for those at the beginning of their building, but for those who have already created something significant, yet sense that the vision of what they ought to be producing has been, perhaps gradually and reasonably, overtaken by forces outside themselves, by what clients asked for, by what the market rewarded, by what a mentor suggested, by what the algorithm decided to favor.
“Most professional development has nothing to offer this person,” said Joia. “This is not a problem that yields to more content, more strategy, or more refined frameworks for growth. What it requires is something considerably rarer, a room serious enough to ask the questions that have not been asked, and peers willing to witness the answers given before they presume to respond to it.”
Four commitments that change what becomes possible
Before the session begins, every participant actively agrees to uphold four commitments. These are agreements made among equals about the kind of room they are choosing to create together:
Honor the singular. Each participant’s work and perspective is treated as genuinely unique, never flattened into the recognizable or coached toward conformity, even when conformity would be faster.
Witness before responding. Participants commit to staying in comprehension longer than the pull toward helpfulness tends to allow, reflecting back what they have heard before adding anything of their own. Advice given before someone feels genuinely understood is advice offered from too little information.
Bring what is real. The session is built for honest, unfinished thinking, not polished presentations of problems already solved. The member who brings a genuine difficulty serves the room better than the one who arrives with curated answers.
Protect what is shared. Everything in the room, the uncertainty as much as the insight, the unfinished thinking as much as the arrived-at conclusion, stays there. The session is not recorded.
“When people have actively committed to how they will show up, rather than simply acknowledging a list of expectations, they become accountable to a version of themselves they have chosen to be, in the presence of others who have chosen the same standards,” said Joia. “That act, made before the work begins, changes the quality of everything that follows.”
A format built around witnessing
The session includes time for private reflective writing, questions, and small witnessed conversations, a structure designed around the principle that the most valuable thing one person can offer another is often the quality of attention that allows the other to arrive at their own best thinking.
What each participant will leave with is not, necessarily, a repositioned offer or a refined strategy, but their own expanded vision of what their work is actually capable of becoming, named precisely and honestly, in their own words, in a room built to hold it.
