“Everything that has a beginning has an end. I see the end coming. I see the darkness spreading. I see death. And you are all that stands in his way,” said The Oracle in ‘The Matrix Revolutions' (2003).
With all lights shut and lying on his bed watching HBO, Mr. W reaffirmed his vision.
For 6 years, the head office wanted Mr. W’s expatriate team dissolved and repurposed. The local employees ‘screamed’ for ever more prominent roles and pays. And, his customers wanted to gain economic advantages by making the sales processes unnecessarily complicated.
Somehow, Mr. W was able to find that balance, until now.
His wife, now with 2 young children and an aging mother, was lonely and longed for their home return. And, it became harder to attract and retain local talents.
The head of an expatriate team, Mr. W ran a country region of a multinational. His responsibilities covered regional strategy, planning, sourcing, manufacturing and sales in an industry that was experiencing tectonic shift – a shift from the West to the East. Opportunities were diminishing back home.
“Is there a place for me back in the head office? What about those loyal to me here?”
The brutality of the Business Organics meant that if Mr. W decided to hold on in the host country the way it was, his employer would face a debilitating talent dilution that would fail any business model.
If he left, his expat team could lose their jobs in a not-too-distant future. Their current capabilities would not support the remote management structure moving back. He felt personally responsible to their well-being.
It seems certain the end of an era in both ways, unless a major change was implemented.
Day and Night Thinking
By the side of the blinking TV, a voice came deep within.
Where that came from, Consciousness or Subconsciousness, it didn’t matter (see Chapter 1 – Born With It All (brainzmagazine.com)). What mattered was, it helped to clarify the True Purpose that Mr. W could use during the day 日 to Strategize 心 and Grow 田, and this Matches 相 with what he Truly Desires 心 during the night 夜.
When there is Congruency and Alignment between the daily activities and the nightly reflections, the Spontaneous Reactions that come with it (see also Chapter 2 – Spontaneous Reactions (brainzmagazine.com)), will provide the means to turn that Wheel of Fortune (see Chapter 4 — Taichi Fortunate (brainzmagazine.com)).
Knowing how to Taichi that Wheel of Fortune is the start. It needs both the Energy and the Mechanism(s) to realise.
Mental Energy Generation
In classical physics (so far), there is conservation of mass and energy. Elemental matters and energies are neither created or destroyed after the Big Bang. What follows after that, has been various combinations and re-combinations of matters associated with various kinds of energy transfers.
But that is when we look at things at the universe scale.
At a smaller scale, when we take in food, water, and air, our digestive system breaks it down into smaller pieces and smaller molecules with released energy by way of a series of spontaneous chemical/metabolic reactions affected by conditions. When the molecules and energy absorbed is equal or greater than those required to sustain life and other human activities, we grow and/or avoid death.
Physical activities alone, however, does not complete us as human.
There is also the mental side, complete with a separate set of spontaneous reactions inside our mind influenced by conditions. See Chapter 1 – Born With It All (brainzmagazine.com) and Chapter 2 – Spontaneous Reactions (brainzmagazine.com). As with the physical world, Space and Time are also essential to support mental reactions of Emotionalization, Internalisation and Processing of the information collected through our five senses of vision 眼, hearing 耳, smelling 鼻, tasting 舌, and touching 身, plus the sixth sense of memory and instinct 意識.
Thus, Information is the Fuel of the Spontaneous Mental Reactions happening inside each of our minds.
The spontaneous mental reactions of Mr. W, that compared the Current Collected Information on the Business Organics against his Past Experiences, Learnings, and Desires, informed him that Good Faith built on the Foundation of Justice 公平, Fairness 公正, Transparency 公開 and Popularity 公眾 was The Way to go.
Gap Realisation and Mental Frictions thus incurred generated the sort of positive mental energy required to start and sustain a series of decisions and actions.
Very importantly, without Good Faith, the energy created could be a negative one, leading to downward spirals.
CentriFusion Formula of Change ©
To create buy-in and sustain traction among key stakeholders, Mr. W deployed a strategy that resembled CentriFusion Formula of Change below:
For 2 years, Mr W grew the Driving Capabilities of Mental Power, Direction and Mechanisms during the day that stayed congruent and aligned with the Good Faith he identified and maintained during the night. And, he made sure that the product of the Driving Capabilities was greater than the sum of the Resistance of Gravity, Head Wind and Leakage.
Transfer That Energy
This sounds all so perfect, but the trick lies on how to transfer that energy to the affected parties exactly the way Mr. W envisioned.
There are two major pathways.
First, find the fit between Mr. W’s and the key stakeholder’s Wheels of Fortune, much like the fit between two gearwheels. See also Chapter 4 — Taichi Fortunate (brainzmagazine.com).
When there is enough fit between the Wheel of Fortune Trinities – Capacities 智, Emotions 仁 and Commercials 勇 – Mr. W would then be able to drive the other’s using his own, as long as his energy was greater than the other’s resistance.
The effectiveness and efficiency of this approach can be low when the choice of collaborators is not in one’s control – after all, every person possesses different physical gift of God, experiences accumulated thus far, and personal needs and desires affected by changing circumstances. The smaller is the (control of assembling that) talent pool, the harder it is to find that fit.
The second pathway involves finding the right instrument, medium, and pitch to create emotional resonance on the other stakeholder’s sixth sense of memory and instinct 意識. Hopefully, this leads to the receiver’s own mental energy generation to facilitate that person’s own spontaneous decision and action outcomes that are congruent and aligned to the initial intention of the communicator. Understanding human’s Emotions of Seven 七情, Desires of Six 六欲 and Bad Habits of Five五毒 is the start (see Chapter 4 — Taichi Fortunate (brainzmagazine.com)).
Empathy and good listening on shared experiences assisted by various kinds of encouragements worked very well for Mr. W.
The good thing is, while he was executing his strategy (Mental Power x Direction x Mechanisms > Gravity + Head Wind + Leakage) with the second pathway, Mr. W was able to improve all aspects of The Business, bits by bits. Though not yet what he desired, he was still able to move back home, manage both his expat and local teams remotely, and achieve elevated business outcomes better than competitions.
When the pie is getting bigger, there is no need to attain strict congruency and alignment anymore. Space and time are created. Not different is suffice and better.
