Are you highly sensitive to energy, emotion, or other people's feelings?

I have always been emotional; sensitive, empathetic, and a deeply feeling person. I sense the emotional energy of others, read auras, and pick up on the vibe of a room. These gifts were not always gifts. As a child, they were often extremely confusing and overwhelming.

My work focuses on emotional empowerment, guiding you to develop the knowledge and skills to navigate emotions with confidence. I explore how and why emotions manifest as an energetic charge in the body. Through this journey, I will introduce you to five essential keys for understanding your emotions, cultivating greater self-awareness, releasing emotional charges, and transforming your emotional energy to feel empowered.

Emotional overwhelm is a common experience for many

Without a clear understanding of how emotions work, one can easily feel confused, scared, lost, stuck, upset, or angry. Consider how children often respond to strong emotions, through tantrums, hiding behind a parent, or crying uncontrollably. If emotions aren’t safe to express or clearly explained, it can lead to unhealthy emotional expression later in life, often contributing to mental health challenges.

As humans, we often experience negative emotions: fear, anger, sadness, and their variations. It’s crucial to know ourselves inside and out so we can take care of our emotional needs and desires.

Emotions weren’t talked about much when I was a child in the 1980s. They were often ignored, hushed, or seen as shameful or weak. In truth, our emotions exist for a reason: to guide us on our journey and help us make decisions.

Life can feel confusing & challenging when we don’t trust ourselves

Ignoring our emotions as an internal guidance system can erode confidence and foster negativity. No one told me when I was young and shy that I was experiencing a form of fear and anxiety. Back then, it wasn’t really considered, I was just labeled as shy. Young people, both now and in the past, often feel a bit anxious as they navigate relationships, school, and the workplace. As I came to know and accept myself, my anxiousness began to fade. This journey underscores the importance of deep self-awareness in building self-trust and personal empowerment.

My passion for emotional education

Educating people about emotional energetics stems from a decade of working closely with adults experiencing emotional overwhelm. This work has revealed the transformative power of understanding and embracing our emotions as adults.

In a society where emotions are often overlooked, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact they have on our mental health and self-esteem. I’ve lost family and friends to anxiety, depression, paranoia, suicide, substance abuse, and the numbing effects of screens and social media. Through my personal experiences and my work with others, I've come to understand that emotional empowerment is not just about feeling good, it’s about building a foundation of trust in yourself to make aligned decisions with your mind, body, and soul.

Five simple steps to emotional empowerment

1. Understanding the language and wisdom of emotions

Emotions are our internal guidance system, and every emotion carries a message, a ray of wisdom waiting to be acknowledged, felt, seen, and heard. When we come to know and understand our emotions as such, we learn to trust ourselves, our feelings, and our decisions. Below is a brief description of six main emotions to help you gain some clarity:

  • Fear: In the nervous system, fear is a protective instinct, urging caution.

  • Anger: Angry energy signals that our boundaries or values have been crossed.

  • Peace: Peace is a feeling of tranquility, found in conflict-free moments.

  • Joy: Joy is the sensation of pure delight and happiness.

  • Sadness: Sadness is a heavy feeling of loss or disconnection.

  • Love: Love is a deep affection and connection we feel.

2. Awareness

Tuning into the physical sensations and accompanying thoughts is key. My suggestion is to sit with your feeling, allow yourself to fully experience it, and let it flow through you. Using all of your senses, feel it, see it, hear it, and even engage in a dialogue with it. Ask it: "What are you doing here? What do you want me to know?" Thank it for showing up for you. Acknowledging and appreciating our emotions helps to loosen their grip.

3. Release

Discharge and release the energetic charge from your body in healthy ways by moving it. Shake, stomp, dance, flick, scream, sing, write, run, box, paint, or breathe it out. Find the method that works best for you.

4. Transformation

Redirecting focus in a positive direction by setting an energetic intention helps shift your emotional state. For example, if you were feeling scared, you can choose to feel courage instead. Each time you make new decisions or set fresh intentions, you rewire your brain to adopt new patterns, reclaiming your personal power and reinforcing your ability to choose differently.

5. Embracing the full spectrum of emotions

Emotional empowerment is about embracing both the dark and light aspects of our emotional experiences. The yin-yang symbol reminds us that light cannot exist without dark, just as pleasure cannot be fully appreciated without pain or peace without turbulence. Embracing and accepting your feelings is not only healthy but also essential for well-being and key to harnessing the transformative power of your energy.

It’s Ok to feel your feelings

You are not your feelings, they are just an experience you are having. Through practice and experience with these tools, you will come to understand that it is safe to feel your feelings. They are simply an energetic charge, letting them flow through you. Emotions are your internal guidance system, so be open to receiving the wisdom they offer. The more you practice, the easier it becomes, and you will find it an empowering way to live.
