Ricky Scoggan

OCD Specialist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Ricky Scoggan, LMFT, is an OCD specialist, author and the founder and clinical director of The Scoggan Institute, an outpatient OCD treatment center in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2026, Medical Care Review Magazine named The Scoggan Institute its Top Outpatient OCD Treatment Practice after a review by a panel of medical experts and its editorial board.

Ricky has more than 20 years in mental health and 13 years as a licensed therapist. He began his career with adolescents in residential and outpatient treatment and became a program director at Copper Hills Youth Center at age 25. He has specialized in OCD and anxiety for more than 10 years, and more than 90% of his practice is OCD and related disorders. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona and Utah, holds a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University, and has advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT).

At The Scoggan Institute, ERP is the core of every treatment plan, supported by I-CBT, ACT and DBT skills. The Institute treats children from age 8, teens and adults with every form of OCD, including harm, relationship, religious, contamination and "Pure O," as well as BDD, BFRBs and OCD that co-occurs with autism, ADHD or personality disorders. Its 3-week Intensive Outpatient Program delivers 45 hours of one-on-one ERP, and families can take part in treatment. Clients are seen in Scottsdale and Salt Lake City and by telehealth in Arizona and Utah.

Ricky has written two books on OCD. The Clinician's Cookbook for OCD Exposure Therapy: The Scoggan Method (Scoggan Institute Press, 2026) is a treatment guide for therapists. His next book, Stop Feeding It, is coming soon. He trains and supervises other clinicians in ERP. His mission is to make effective, ERP-based OCD treatment available to everyone who needs it.
