Maya Akai is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over two decades of dedicated experience in mental wellness within the social service and mental health sectors. She possesses a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Studies, complemented by certification as an addiction counselor.

Her professional background is comprehensive, including 15 years in crisis intervention accrued during her tenure in an Emergency Service Department. This extensive experience, combined with collaborative work across diverse mental and social service agencies, has prepared her to engage effectively with individuals across the lifespan, various demographics, and a wide spectrum of mental health concerns.

In addition to her clinical practice, Maya Akai maintains an interest in culture and engaging with new people and experiences. She has traveled to over 18 countries across Europe, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean, as well as 25 of the 50 United States. Maya Akai is committed to empowering others toward fulfilling lives as the host of the globally distributed weekly podcast, M.A.Y.A. My Ambition Your Ambition, which integrates her passion for public speaking and radio broadcasting. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology, with her dissertation focused on the mental health dynamics of menopause.
