Janet Vantriet

Certified Organisational Ombudsman, Conflict & Culture Strategist, Founder, EquipMe Coaching & Consulting

In an era where organisations are under unprecedented pressure to navigate conflict, culture, and conduct risk with both precision and humanity, Janet Vantriet stands out as one of Australia’s few Certified Organisational Ombuds – a specialist whose work is reshaping how leaders address the issues that most influence trust, performance, and organisational resilience.

With more than two decades inside people and culture functions across resources, government and large corporates, Janet witnessed a pattern that would define her career: talented people avoiding hard conversations, leaders caught between fairness and compliance, and organisations reacting to problems that could have been prevented if concerns had been surfaced earlier. She recognised that traditional HR structures were built for process – not for the kind of early, human conversation that defuses conflict before it becomes a complaint.

This insight led her to establish EquipMe Coaching & Consulting, a practice designed to fill that gap by offering confidential, independent support to HR leaders, executives and boards. Her work draws on the international ombuds principles of neutrality, independence, confidentiality and informality, adapted for organisations seeking a more proactive and human approach to conflict and conduct matters.

A Philosophy of Advocacy Leadership
At the centre of Janet’s practice is an advocacy leadership philosophy – the belief that leaders who are willing to advocate for people, fairness and honest conversation, even when uncomfortable, build more resilient organisations than those who defer or wait for formal processes to intervene. She brings this conviction into every room she enters, not as a neutral technician but as a skilled, credentialled advocate for better outcomes.

Credentials That Bridge Human Insight and Organisational Complexity
Janet’s qualifications reflect both depth and breadth: AMDRAS‑accredited mediator, ICF‑certified coach, CAHRI‑credentialed senior HR professional, and an MBA in Human Resources Management. Her accreditations span conflict resolution, leadership coaching, behavioural assessment, organisational development and workplace culture transformation—giving her a uniquely integrated lens on the human systems that shape organisational behaviour

Independence, Confidentiality and a Human Approach
Janet’s practice is intentionally structured to protect independence, she does not sit inside any organisation’s reporting line, ensuring neutrality and trust at every stage of engagement. Conversations are off‑the‑record by default, with reporting anonymised and aggregated to protect psychological safety and candour
Clients consistently describe her work as deeply human, an experience where they feel treated as people, not cases, and where complexity is met with clarity, humility and respect.

A Multicultural Lens on Conflict and Culture
Having lived and worked across cultures, Janet brings a multicultural perspective that recognises how identity, communication style and cultural values shape conflict dynamics – and how interventions must be tailored to land effectively with different groups. This perspective fuels her default stance of humility: asking before assuming, listening before advising, and understanding before intervening.

Shaping the Future of Organisational Conflict Work

Today, Janet is sought after by organisations across Australia and internationally for her ability to bring courage, clarity and humanity to the most complex workplace situations – from sensitive conduct matters to cultural transformation and leadership development. Her mission is simple but profound: to help organisations handle conflict and culture with integrity, fairness and genuine care.
