James Westphal

Actor & Public Speaking/Communication Coach

James Westphal is an actor, coach, and creative development specialist with professional stage, screen, and coaching experience. He trained as an actor at a leading drama school where he earned his first-class degree, and has since performed on some of the UK’s most respected stages, including Shakespeare’s Globe, London’s Arcola Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, regionally and across the Off-West End. His screen work includes roles for ITV, the feature film Nomad, set for cinema release and extensive independent short films. He is also currently in pre-production for his own short film, PLAYM8 or Ruination in 7 Stages, exploring the intersection of AI and the male loneliness epidemic.
 
Alongside his acting career, James holds a Master’s degree in Psychological Sciences and leads the Part-Time Foundation Acting Course at the industry-leading drama school ArtsEd. He has extensive experience coaching professional actors in audition and performance technique, and works internationally with leaders and organisations to elevate communication, presence, and performance.
 
Through his company, James Westphal Creative Development, he has worked with clients such as Media Arts Lab (Apple’s dedicated marketing agency), the global development company DAI Global, and charities including The Bike Project. He also coaches individuals across business, science, publishing, marketing, and works with CEOs and executives in public-facing roles.
 
James’ approach combines the craft of acting, leading public speaking and communication techniques, and psychological insight to provide effective help and guidance for people who speak for a living. Whether preparing actors for auditions, supporting leaders with high-stakes presentations, or helping professionals develop authentic presence, James empowers people to connect, lead, and speak with impact.
