David Henzell

Sobriety Coach

David Henzell is a qualified addiction therapist, accredited recovery coach, and the founder of Phenomenal Sobriety - a premium, evidence-based recovery programme designed for people who don't fit the traditional recovery mould.

With over eight years of personal sobriety and a professional background that spans addiction therapy, senior academia, and international creative practice, David brings an unusually broad perspective to the field of recovery.

He has worked as a Focused Intervention Worker with Forward Leeds Drug & Alcohol Services, holds an OpenAwards Diploma in Addiction Recovery Therapy, and is an accredited therapist with both the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine and Bee Sober.

He is a member of the Recovery Coach Academy and The Creative Counsellors, and a contributing writer for The Sober Curator. Before moving into recovery work, David enjoyed a distinguished career as a design and advertising professional working with blue-chip clients worldwide, and as a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at the University of Salford and the University of Huddersfield. That background in communication, creativity, and human behaviour shapes everything he does.

His programme, Phenomenal Sobriety, is founded on his signature THRIVE Sobriety System - a comprehensive framework combining evidence-based techniques, AI companion support, and genuine peer community. The programme carries a 98% success rate and was researched, written, and produced entirely by David.

He writes about sobriety, meaning-making, and the relationship between creative practice and psychological resilience - drawing on meaning-centred psychology and a restless curiosity about what it means to build a life oriented around depth rather than noise.
