David W. Carr

Mental Health Coach

David Carr is an author, chaplain, certified mental health coach, suicide prevention trainer, and founder of the MH5 Mental Hygiene System. His work focuses on mental health, faith, leadership, human connection, emotional resilience, and crisis care. With over a decade of chaplaincy experience, David has walked with individuals, families, employees, leaders, and communities through grief, trauma, crisis, uncertainty, and major life transitions.

David holds a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministries and Bible from Columbia International University. He is also certified in mental health coaching and trained in suicide prevention through QPR. His background combines pastoral care, mental health education, leadership development, and practical crisis response, allowing him to speak to both the emotional and spiritual dimensions of human struggle.

He is the author of The Suicide Conversation, a book written to help everyday people move beyond fear, silence, and stigma into courageous, compassionate conversations. He is also the creator of the MH5 Mental Hygiene System, a practical framework that helps people Notice, Name, Regulate, Anchor, and Seek Support before emotional pressure becomes crisis. His central message is that people do not need perfect words to help someone who is struggling; they need the courage to notice, listen, ask, and stay. David’s work is grounded in the conviction that connection saves lives.

Through writing, speaking, coaching, and training, David equips churches, workplaces, caregivers, chaplains, leaders, and community members to recognize distress, respond with wisdom, and build cultures where people are safe to struggle. His teaching blends practical mental health tools with deep theological reflection, helping people develop clarity, resilience, compassion, and moral courage.

David writes for those who are tired of shallow positivity and surface-level awareness. His goal is to help people face the weight of real life with honesty, hope, and practical action. Whether addressing suicide prevention, emotional resilience, leadership, grief, faith, or human connection, his work calls people back to presence, responsibility, and love.
