Founder of 110 Yoga & creator of the 110 Method.
Cristina Max is the founder of 110 Yoga and creator of the 110 Method, an alignment-based movement system designed to change the way people understand tightness, pain, stability, and performance.
Her journey began with a deep passion for yoga and movement, but years of teaching and experiencing her own cycle of injuries, tightness, and frustration, eventually led Cristina to question many of the traditional approaches she had been taught. Instead of treating tightness as something to stretch away, Cristina began treating it as information—a signal that something deeper needed to be understood.
In 2016, Cristina took a leap of faith and transformed her own home into the first 110 Yoga studio. What began as a small vision grew into a thriving movement community with locations in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina. 110 Yoga was recognized as a Best of the Triangle winner in the Yoga/Pilates/Barre category, reflecting the impact the studio has made within the local wellness community.
Cristina’s continued education has shaped the evolution of her teaching, with her work deeply informed by Postural Restoration Institute principles and an ongoing study of breathing mechanics, alignment, stability, and the relationship between the ribcage and pelvis. Her personal experience, years of teaching, and continued education led her to look beyond flexibility and ask a different question: What if the body doesn’t always need more stretching, but needs to learn how to stabilize and move more effectively to reduce these sensations?
That evolution became the foundation for the 110 Method—a movement re-education approach focused on addressing the underlying contributors to tightness and pain rather than continually chasing symptoms. At its core is restoring the relationship between the ribs and pelvis, creating better stability and coordination, and teaching the body to move from a more efficient foundation.
Yoga remains the modality through which Cristina brings these concepts to life. Rather than teaching yoga simply as a series of poses or stretches, she uses movement, breath, transitions, and progressively challenging positions to put the body’s mechanics into action. Her approach combines the intelligence of yoga with principles of alignment, stability, breathing, and functional movement, allowing students to learn these concepts by actually experiencing them in their bodies.
Today, Cristina’s work bridges yoga, functional movement, alignment, and performance. She educates both students and teachers through 110 Yoga, teacher trainings, workshops, and the 110 Method, helping people move beyond the idea that flexibility is the ultimate goal and toward a body that is stable, adaptable, strong, and capable.
Her mission is bigger than teaching people how to move better. Cristina wants to change the conversation around the body—to help people understand why they feel the way they do, address the underlying contributors to tightness and pain, optimize how they move and perform, and ultimately build a body they feel strong, capable, and good living in.
