Ava Marie Somers
Clinical Counsellor, Mental Health Thought Leader
Ava Marie Somers, MACP, CCC is a Canadian Clinical Counsellor, writer, and founder of Inner Harmony CMH, a virtual counselling practice serving adults across Canada from her base in Strathmore, Alberta. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, and has pursued advanced training in trauma, attachment, and somatic approaches that recognize the inseparable relationship between mind and body.
Ava's clinical work spans trauma, identity, relationships, workplace wellbeing, grief, and emotional healing. Across these areas, one theme consistently emerges: people often suffer not only from what has happened to them, but from lacking the language to understand what they are experiencing. Her integrative approach draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, somatic and polyvagal-informed practice, motivational interviewing, attachment theory, family systems, and the Gottman Method, meeting each client at the intersection of mind, body, meaning, and lived experience.
Much of her writing explores the power of accurate naming—helping readers distinguish consent from compliance, shared wounds from genuine emotional safety, burnout from workplace oppression, and survival from authentic selfhood. Her work is especially concerned with the moments that go unrecognized: when nervous system patterns are mistaken for personality, silence is mistaken for peace, endurance is mistaken for strength, or chronic self-doubt quietly masks the effects of systemic harm.
Drawing from both clinical practice and lived experience, Ava writes with the belief that clarity is profoundly therapeutic. Rather than offering quick fixes, she invites readers into deeper reflection, helping them recognize patterns that have remained hidden and reconnect with their own instincts, boundaries, values, and capacity for discernment.
She is the creator of The Clarity Thread, a monthly reflective publication exploring psychology, identity, relationships, faith, and the human experience. Grounded in a humanistic framework, her work honours each person's inherent dignity, capacity for growth, and potential for meaningful change. Whether she is working with clients in the therapy room or writing for an international audience, Ava returns to the same question: What becomes possible when we finally have the right words for our experience? She believes that healing is not only about reducing distress, but about restoring connection to self, body, meaning, and living in greater harmony.
