Asha Carolyn Young
Instructor and Practitioner of Healing Arts
Born in Chiang Mai, Thailand to American parents, Asha Carolyn Young is an instructor and practitioner of intuitive energy healing, emotional processing, Quantum-Touch ®, and painting therapy. Her mission is to empower people with techniques to promote wellbeing.
Living in Northern California, she offers remote healing sessions for people and animals internationally, and teaches online workshops. She hosts “Asha’s Healing” for News for the Soul radio, sharing ideas and leading exercises on how to self-heal and help others. A plein air and abstract painter for decades and author of three art-related books, she offers workshops on “Painting for Joy and Healing.”
During energy healing sessions, Asha intuitively integrates a variety of modalities, using her hands, breath, heart-field, sight, toning, and focused consideration. As with all energy healing, she explains, the recipient is the true healer, since their Inner Healer receives the energy and brilliantly uses it to the receiver’s highest benefit.
Quantum-Touch® encompasses gentle yet powerful techniques to bring harmony to body, mind, emotions, and spirit, enhancing well-being. Because the process works at the quantum energy level, techniques can be offered remotely or in-person.
Emotional processing is a method of releasing backed-up emotional anguish by gently addressing associated discomfort in the body, enabling people to quite rapidly surrender negative emotions originating from recent or distant past. This leads to increased comfort and sometimes spontaneous physical healing.
Background
Asha’s paternal grandparents and great grandparents were Baptist missionaries living in remote, areas of China and Burma. Her grandfather was born in Burma; her father, in China. Her first language was Northern Thai; and she grew up influenced by her Christian mother and grandmother, as well as by her Buddhist nanny, who worked with the family for many years in Thailand and Vientiane, Laos. Various spiritual ideas therefore emanated around Asha during childhood.
Her background includes college studies in literature, history, and cultural anthropology. She has spent decades practicing Buddhist meditation, and undertook intensive Theravada Buddhist Samadhi meditation study with The Willpower Institute. She has steadily associated with spiritual teachers, gifted psychics, and channelers.
She formally studied energy healing with Quantum-Touch® andThe Wonder Method®; completed Orin and Daben’s course, “Awakening Your Light Body;” and explored sound methods for attaining out-of-body states with the Monroe Institute. She is familiar with a wide array of spiritual, metaphysical, and healing literature; practices yoga; and channels a spirit guide, whom she met after the infamous Oakland Hills Firestorm of 1991 in California.
During that fire, she and her partner visualized White Light encircling their home, which miraculously survived. Spiritual transformation ensued for her. Within weeks, she received her name "Asha," whispered during meditation; and she began signing her paintings with the name, which means “hope” in Hindi.
She began channeling and painting abstractly; and she met spiritualist and abstract painter Hari E. Thomas, who became her best friend, spiritual advisor, and painting colleague for the next 18 years until his death. Also at this time, she studied laying-on-of-hands with the late Joseph Martinez in San Francisco.
Professional Experience
Asha’s experience has involved freelance writing and editing; grant-writing for refugee agencies; ESL teaching; newspaper reporting and feature writing; college-level tutoring; indie publishing; and art shows of her paintings.
Her books are: CARRY YOUR OWN JOY: The Life and Abstract Paintings of Hari E. Thomas, (2015); JOURNEY TO THE TRACKS: Industrial Landscape Paintings and Sketches of Oakland, California (2017), and OLD PAINTED DOORS AND GATES (2018). She is currently completing a novel.
Asha holds a B.A. in History (University of California, Los Angeles), an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology (University of California, Berkeley), and a California Community College Teaching Credential. At UCLA, she received the President’s Undergraduate Fellowship for Research to conduct research in Bangkok on “Thai Professional Women,” for which she won the Justin Turner Award in History.
Her Ph.D. research in Cultural Anthropology focused on "Thai Buddhist Nuns," supported by a Robert Lowie Fund Grant. Her preliminary research in the Chiang Mai region unexpectedly led to spiritual re-awakening. She left the Ph.D. program after three years to pursue creative writing and painting, and to follow her spiritual path.
