So you’ve done it all. You went to the sweat lodge and did the plant medicine. You tried Reiki and different healings. You explored yoga, meditation, and breathwork. You got your kundalini activated and took a deep dive into your family trauma in constellation therapy. You changed your diet, started exercising, and dusted off your backpack to go on that solo trip to the other side of the planet. You read every book they recommended, listened to all the podcasts, and completed several training sessions and online programs. You had wonderful experiences, met amazing people, and finally felt like you were making progress. The pain and emptiness you’ve been carrying all your life feel lighter.

Person sitting on a rooftop at sunset, taking a photo. Sunlight and clouds create a warm, tranquil atmosphere.

Then something happens. It could be the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, or a sudden financial crisis. Or maybe all of those at once. Before you know it, you’re back at square one. You feel the unbearable pain. Your mind is working overtime trying to figure out a way out. Back into the depression, back into the old stories. Nothing makes sense anymore. You can’t eat, you can’t sleep. Getting out of bed feels like running a marathon. Your friends don’t understand you anymore and slowly disappear. Suddenly, you find yourself all alone at 3 am, staring into the dark, wondering where it all went wrong.

You did everything they told you, and you actually felt better for a while. The promises that were held up to you seem to have been fulfilled. All those teachings, all those techniques designed to make you feel good again (or maybe for the first time). How could they have failed you? Was it all a lie? You hit rock bottom. There’s nothing you can think of anymore. Nothing that might help you out of this familiar state of suffering and loneliness. You can’t seem to catch a break. It all feels futile all of a sudden. You got onto this spiritual path because you couldn’t find lasting peace and happiness in the material world. Now this? Where did it go wrong?

The truth is: you are already whole and healed. The only thing standing between you and that simple recognition is the belief you are not. Thinking you need one more technique to feel better, one more training to finally be credible, even one more life to reach enlightenment, is what keeps you on the merry-go-round. It all starts from a false starting belief. A hypothesis that there is something wrong with you. That you have something to achieve, that there’s a certain version of you to get to. So you’ve embarked on the spiritual journey in the same way you embarked on your initial journey in the material world. Your unconscious beliefs have still been in the driving seat. Leading you to believe you will be happy “when”. When you get the job, the car, or the house. When you’ve done enough inner work and ceremonies. Like with a carrot on a stick, there’s always some next level to get to. The ego constantly needs feeding.

There’s nothing special about the spiritual journey. It’s life itself. Your life’s journey is your spiritual journey, whatever shape or form it takes. But it is not a path of more. Attaining more, doing more, earning more, learning more, becoming more. To say it in biblical terms, you don’t have to earn your access to the kingdom of heaven. Jesus and all the great masters have taught us the same thing: to find the kingdom of heaven within. It’s there, it’s always there, and there’s no other place to find it, or to get to. It’s within you, within all of us. There’s no carrot to chase, no pot of gold on the ever-moving horizon.

The spiritual path is a path of less. It’s not about strengthening the ego, but about letting go of the identification with that egoic sense of self. It’s about stripping away all the old and often hidden beliefs. It’s about doing less, believing less, becoming less. It’s no more about doing, but about being. It becomes about being real, being true, being your own authentic self. When the mind becomes quiet, when the thoughts of always something more to do or to achieve float away like clouds in the sky, only truth remains. The truth of who and what you are. The inner peace you’ve been longing for was always there.

All healing is self-healing. There is nothing wrong with the courses and the ceremonies, with the healings and the therapies. They all have their value to bring you back to that place of stillness within. But don’t do them because you need them to become more or better. Let the insights they bring release the old beliefs you’ve been carrying all of your life. Let it all be a tool for the old and stored emotions to rise and be exposed to the light. The one who needs the healing is your personality self, the one holding all those false beliefs about itself. You are perfect and whole. There was never a time you were not. But what will bring the real healing to that wounded part of you is your presence, your love, and your recognition. Not your battle with it, to get rid of it, to make it wrong, but to integrate it and let it finally rest.

Then you can take all the workshops and trainings, take all the ceremonies and healing sessions, go to the retreats and online summits from a place of freedom and surrender. Out of joy, out of curiosity. To learn something new. Not because you’re not good enough as you are, not to finally be credible or taken seriously. But because it’s fun to do, or because you deeply feel that it’s a logical next step on your journey. Then it will become a joy, rather than a struggle. It will be founded on absolute truth, the truth that you’re already perfect just the way you are.
