We have immense power within us that many don't access. Some stand out in their field who appear to move smoothly in life from success to success. When we look deeper, we find they work hard, are committed to their passion and their dreams, and act on those dreams.

Witches are no different. Harnessing the elements of nature or being able to imagine something and bring it to manifestation takes application. It's not difficult, in fact, it's relatively easy because we are using the mind, not muscle. The imagination is potent and doesn't know the difference between the conscious and unconscious, so it's very easy to train by suggestion.

However, there are a few key ingredients. You need to believe what you tell yourself and have a special type of awareness that allows magick to flow.

MAGICK INGREDIENTS for Witchery

Clarity- be clear about what you want to do.
Integrity- do what you say.
Follow up- Having a go get it attitude. Being reliable and dependable to get any job done.
Belief- This seems like a biggy. Because if you don't believe in yourself, then it could be your biggest hurdle. But it's easy if you can simply be open.

Being open to opportunity and magick is about being (change) open-minded. And allowing something to arrive without the usual time constraints.

Limitless options do abound.

Four elements

Earth
Fire
Air
Water

We are made up of these four elements, and although science says we are mostly water there is earthiness (bones), warmth (fire), air (breath).

There are qualities associated with each element. Some knowledge of these is needed for the purpose of casting a good spell. The qualities and how they relate to your personality, the amount of each required in a balanced spell. Sometimes knowledge of which element may be present in the atmosphere helps too. The biodynamic planting calendars can help here.

In my early days, I learnt the foundations of the four elements from John & Lyn St Clair-Thomas and Steven Shackel who taught on these topics in depth.

I used to be a spontaneous, creative person happy to literally flit from one thing to another. I was predominantly air and water in my persona. Air for the quick flight and water for creativity. I would also be emotional and intellectual. To bring balance in I needed more routine and constancy (earth) and some more motivated action (fire). You get the drift?

There are many ways to ground oneself and those with singing bowls can use the note C. “Every planet and celestial body sounds its own notes and these combine in an extraordinary symphony of heavenly music. Hearing and experiencing it automatically expands one's consciousness. Listening to the sound of the Keynote of the Earth is not only interesting; it also provides grounding or earthing, which is beneficial for one's physical and spiritual well-being. It clears blockages in the lower energy centres and chakras of the body and refines their vibration. One needs to use the Keynote ( C) of the Earth with proper attentiveness and mindfulness rather than as a background sound. It should be balanced with the use of other exercises or meditation techniques that utilise the higher centres of the body”. (Online St Clair-Thomas in MindSoulSpirit April 2022).

You are the most potent ingredient of any spell. Your intentions are what bind all together.

One of my first and most powerfully successful spells was for romance. While I believed I could have the love of my life and a faithful steadfast fun companion my own lifestyle was uncommitted. My life was generally based on moving on from one thing to another. Some of my boyfriends were as short as 6 weeks, when I said "so long". Poor bloke.

This was an area I focused on improving, by becoming more faithful and loyal in day-to-day life and in friendships. In this way, it flowed on to other bigger and fantastically wonderous areas of love and romance.

A list of qualities that I was sure would be the right match for me. I wrote these down and popped them in.

For many years this sat and now and then I would stir it, add rose oil and know he was on his way.

Every year early after New Year's Eve when the energy of newness was potent I wrote a list of goals and dreams for the year.

At the top of the list it was always:

Relationship.

I added wealth, health and abundance, whatever I wished for. Writing them down and telling some of these to others voices it as a type of personal commitment.

A spell can be what you relate to as being symbolic for your purpose. You can also follow traditional and tested ways that may have a magick of their own. Inherent magick comes from the belief others have held in them, the added power from ritual and some mystery and magick that has been transported through time.

Wealth spell

One of my faves is an old Irish spell for wealth.

Take a green bottle, fill with seaweed and whisky and place in an eastern facing window.

This wondrous spell has held me well, with my own farm and home and a second home in town, plenty of good income and a comfortable car. Perhaps others would like more and quite possibly that can come to them. For me, I have an abundance of money for my hobbies and travel. I have all that I wished for.

Other items were gathered prior to making the spell/crystal grid layout. On the full moon, I laid them out with the intention for business to boom. Really I only need it to keep building as it was already successful.

Laying the crystals and other items I used my intuition for what looked and felt right.

Leaving the grid in sight, it added to my confidence and belief that energies were transpiring to manifest my way.

As a counsellor and therapist, my work helps others to live happily and true to themselves, getting around the challenges that come to them.

I love my work. All that I have done over my life has led me to this moment of being the best I can be, so that I am there to also help others be who they want to be.

Success in me is success in you.

When you know that you are the creator of your life, that Spirit and Spark are bountiful and limitless there is nothing you can't do. By dreaming, setting goals that are both large and small, by being enthusiastic for life and living you can set yourself a path in life that is both fabulous and fulfilling.

When I give to others I am giving to myself. By sharing my wisdom with others it is strengthened and sparked and re-ignited in me.

My intuition is strong, and at times I can sense others who have passed and give messages to the living who miss them. For many, just knowing they are around and thinking of them is a lovely reassuring thing.

I have run ghost tours in a heritage town, passing on the stories of those remaining.

Healing animals in my younger days, I was part of miracles that have given me faith in spirit and for a long time the motto was, 'where there is life there is hope'

Healing Magick

To make a spell for healing there are many ways.

A simple one is to make or access some holy water.

Take an agate stone as they are easily found and good for general healing.

Place the stone in a container, you can add a piece of the person's hair or an item of theirs or simply write their name or place an object that symbolises them.

Place the water next to the container or splash some on the spell whilst making it.

Hold a (cleansed) clear quartz crystal and dedicate it to healing by thinking and feeling healing whilst you hold it. It can help to imagine the person fully well.

I like to use an image of their perfect archetype, as if spirit remade them just now. I see them perfect physically in a glowing form, fully well. This essence can be imbued into the crystal.

Place it with the other items, the agate, an item of theirs or symbolising them, a sprinkle of water. Now, this crystal is there also powerfully adding to their healing.

This is simply a sample spell, you can add or include other bits and pieces that you wish to utilise.

At times you can hold the crystal and continue to see them wholly well.

a water washed smooth pebble, (water & earth)
Sunstone, bright red or orange items (fire)

Making an altar

A shelf, table top or flat rock.

A cloak or smock or piece of clothing only used for witchery.

Some personally special items (see list above).

Place items using your intuition and what looks right, the altar is a space set aside for sacred use only and no other purpose. This helps create the sacred space.

By using the space for storing items and making spells and such the ritual of this type of use adds and builds power to the altar over time.

I may light the candle and ring the bell.

Focus is the main ingredient from you. Whilst making the spell by putting the items together with intent I focus on the outcome and nothing else.

It can be done quickly. The 'spell' in its container or jar is then taken and sat somewhere else, perhaps on the coffee table or the bedroom or a high shelf out of harm's way. Whatever is appropriate.
