Vacation time is also time to consider work life – especially if it is problematic or unsatisfactory. It can disrupt your much-needed break. But it can also be a good thing to use the opportunity to rethink working life and act before dissatisfaction ends in stress and burnout. And even often without you realizing it, before the body or the psyche says no.

Are you driving on autopilot?

It may have been a long time since you seriously considered how you feel at work and how you want your working life to look. Many drive on a kind of autopilot a large part of the time, where they don't ask questions, but just do what they usually do.

Change can be scary, and it can seem easier to shut down the critical thoughts and the body's signals and just let life take you along. But stress and burnout lurk just around the corner, and often without you knowing it. One of the early signs of this is if you are often holiday or weekend sick.

Stress is a growing problem

More and more Danes have symptoms of stress, in fact the number of Danes with a high stress score has increased from 21% in 2013 to 29% in 2021. This is a drastic increase, so maybe we as a society need to stop.

We can each reflect on our working life and ask ourselves the difficult questions: How am I really feeling? Am I happy with my work? What do I want from my working life? Am I living the life I live?

Symptoms of stress

Everyone has different reactions to stress, but there are some symptoms that recur in many people. It may be that you change your behavior and character both outside and at home, you are sick more often and have recurring headaches, stomachaches, nausea, anxiety or sadness.

You may find it difficult to concentrate, skip your breaks and increase your consumption of coffee and other stimulants. You are typically prone to tears, you withdraw socially and you have less of a sense of humour. You may also start to do things faster, for example when you walk, talk and eat.

Send me here, with stress chart in the subject field, and I will send you a chart with the classic physical, psychological and behavioral symptoms of stress.

Burnout

When you experience stress for shorter periods, you can easily still feel engaged and happy about your work and your achievements. However, prolonged stress at work can lead to burnout.

When you are burned out, all passion and commitment to your work and often to life as a whole has disappeared, and indifference and cynicism have taken over. Tasks that used to be solved with ease and intensity are now difficult to manage.

A working life that enriches you

It can be difficult to change the culture at your workplace, your boss's temperament or your work tasks, but you can change your own approach to work and become more aware of your wishes and needs.

I believe that we all have a right to work that enriches us rather than diminishes us. So if you can recognize some of the symptoms of stress and burnout, it may be precisely during the holidays that you should take the first step towards rethinking and changing your working life.

The solutions

Although stress and burnout may feel like something that only happens in the head, it can affect your whole body both psychologically, emotionally, physically, biologically and chemically.

That is why it is a good idea to have a biochemical test done, which e.g. can tell if you lack vitamins and minerals, which can have a big impact on both your physical and mental health. Feel free to contact me if you are curious or want to hear more. Talking to a coach or therapist is also an important element in finding yourself in your work again and moving on.

I offer a holistic treatment with a focus on both body and mind. Because neither body nor mind can be separated from each other, and they influence each other much more than one would think. I therefore look at the whole of you – together with you – and give you tools to tackle the challenges and get the best out of yourself according to your wishes, needs and your unique biological whole in body and mind.

If you are ready to take the step towards more satisfaction and joy in your working life, I am ready to support you and help you further.
