No matter your age or stage of life, there’s a good chance you’re busy. Whether you’re in school, working, caring for children, or juggling a few different responsibilities, dental care may be low on your priority list. However, since healthy teeth and gums are essential if you’d like to avoid serious complications, it’s important to establish an oral care routine.

If you’re short on cash, rest assured that dental financing can help you find some or all of it. Here are some tips to guide you toward the ideal routine as you go through the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Schedule routine dental visits

The best way to be proactive about your oral health is to schedule (and actually go to) dental exams and cleanings on a regular basis. Most dentists recommend these visits every six months or so but you may need them more frequently if you have certain dental issues. Try to schedule these checkups when you’re less busy. Depending on your situation, this may be in the summer, early mornings, or lunch breaks. Note that some dentists are even open on the weekends.

Streamline your at-home routine

Caring for your teeth at home is just as important as routine trips to the dentist. The good news is you don’t have to spend hours brushing and flossing your teeth each day. All you have to do is brush thoroughly twice a day for two minutes and floss once daily. You might want to invest in an electric toothbrush to make the process easier and more efficient. If you travel often or frequently find yourself away from home, keep a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste in your bag or car so you can freshen up when necessary.

Take advantage of hygiene products

There are a few hygiene products that can help you protect your teeth and gums as you live your busy life. Mouthwash, for example, might be worthwhile as it can reach areas you may not be able to get to with brushing and flossing. Believe it or not, it may help you prevent bacteria and bad breath. Another option is to chew sugar-free gum after meals in order to neutralize acids and promote the production of saliva, which can lead to healthy pH levels.

Eat healthy

You may be surprised to learn that your diet can actually play a significant role in your oral health. Do your best to stick to nutritious, well-balanced meals. Some of the best foods for your teeth include dairy products, green leafy veggies, salmon, and anything else with calcium, phosphorus, and omega-3 fatty acids. Limit your intake of sugary, hard foods and beverages. You might want to pack healthy snacks to avoid the temptation of unhealthy foods that can wreak havoc on your teeth and gums.

It is possible to achieve optimal oral health with a busy schedule

Even if you have a lot on your plate, you can keep your teeth and gums in excellent shape. By being proactive about your oral health, you’ll be able to reduce the risk of serious health issues that will cost you more time and money in the future.
