Tesla Is Recalling Almost 1.1 Millions Cars In The US

Owners of a Tesla car in the US will be receiving a letter in November over a safety issue with the vehicles’ windows.

The recall has been prompted by a problem with the automatic windows, which may mean that they do not react correctly when an obstruction is detected.

The call has been made by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which says that the fault is a safety-standards violation. It covers all Tesla models but specifically the 2017-22 Model 3 sedans; some 2020-21 Model Y SUVs, Model S sedans and Model X SUVs.

Tesla’s founder Elon Musk has reacted furiously to the way that the news has been reported, but specifically the NHTSA’s use of the term “recall”. He took to Twitter to declare: "The terminology is outdated and inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no injuries.”
