As my daughter sat in our family room staring at her MacBook while demanding answers from me regarding multiplying fractions, I thought about how much the pandemic has brought back to my memory! It has been a re-teaching and a re-branding of sorts. Needless to say, that was only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Like many of you, I’ve gained some level of new expertise during the pandemic. Trust me, I wasn’t looking to add them to my repertoire of abilities, but life demanded that I refocus, rebrand, and shift. Here’s what happened, and here are the tools that empowered me to love my newfound pandemic expertise and continue to add value and make an impact.

What Happened?

Aside from being the founder of The Polished Institute, a Michigan-based nonprofit empowers girls and women with the life-changing power of polish, poise, and etiquette, but I’m also a Pastor’s Wife. In my Pentecostal church, I’m responsible for the work of the women’s ministry. Every Sunday, you can find me in my designated seat right at the front of the church (yikes)!

Then the pandemic happened. With it came a difference in how we shared our message with the world. Gone were the days when hundreds of congregants would converge upon our physical church building, quickly finding their favorite and familiar pew. We were forced to pivot and take all of our messaging virtual prematurely.

I instantly became well versed in things that I’d never heard of before like, camera isis, white balance, video capture devices, switchers, lower thirds, and soundboard integration, to name a few.

Tools To Use!

  • Embrace the change

  • Reject the urge to do what you’ve always done

  • Manifest your most favorable outcome

  • Go with the flow

  • Utterly destroy self-sabotaging thought patterns

  • Lastly, kill it

Now, parishioners might find me in my cute and familiar leading lady seat or my sneakers up in the studio! Either way, I’m certainly adding value. Whatever you find yourself doing and whatever station post-pandemic life has you in, add value! It’ll make its way back to you…I promise.
