Renee Devereaux offers solutions to physical, emotional, and spiritual issues through hypnotherapy, nutrition, and shamanic energy healing. She has been in private practice for 40+ years. Renee found early in her career that physical issues always appeared to have an emotional/spiritual source or connection.

After more than 40 years in practice, what continues to inspire your work in helping people heal at the mind, body, and soul level?

What continues to inspire me to stay in practice is that I can see, feel and understand the level at which people suffer. They often blame the symptom or condition on something that has little or no connection to the true source of the issue. It’s a thrill to have my clients understand the WHY for their confusion, pain or suffering as well as access the tools and confidence to change what no longer suits their life.

You often say that physical symptoms have emotional or spiritual roots. What experiences first convinced you that this connection was real?

I was born to a family that permitted infant sexual abuse. A sexually transmitted disease caused me to develop physical symptoms as well as emotional issues that I suppressed until neither could be contained. The cancer diagnosis at 40 was not a surprise. I felt I was a textbook case and exemplified trauma in its evolutionary and devastating process.

Your approach brings together hypnotherapy, nutrition, and shamanic healing. How do these disciplines complement one another in your trauma resolution method?

Dietary habits play a major role in managing most physical symptoms; nutritional recommendations are made to give the body immediate support.

Hypnotherapy facilitates an altered state where the conscious mind relaxes, allowing delivery of new information and a reinterpretation of one’s history into the subconscious.

Shamanic energy work is key in bringing about wholeness through what’s known as “soul retrieval.” A process that brings back love of self and acceptance of every aspect of oneself.

Why do you think modern healthcare still struggles to address the subconscious and emotional causes of illness?

I believe that modern healthcare has a challenge due to the vast number of people who suffer from disease.

In order to address the subconscious and emotional causes of illness, there would need to be a radical change in education as well as in the system itself. The approach would be to treat for “wholeness” rather than lumping people into categories in order to diagnose and address symptoms by prescribing drugs.

You also teach personal sovereignty and entrepreneurship. What connection do you see between deep healing and the confidence to create a new path in life or business?

When we heal on a deep level, our creative spark is ignited. We want freedom to create and BECOME all that we intuitively sense is within us! It’s truly a gift to be able to express what is true and real for each as an individual as opposed to being enslaved by a system that calls for a drone-like, docile, and submissive state from cradle to coffin.

When someone feels stuck in long-held beliefs or patterns, where do you encourage them to begin without becoming overwhelmed?

I encourage them to start journaling about their current state of mind; to allow time for introspection without judgement; and, to start asking themselves if there’s an unacknowledged desire that has never been given a voice?

What is one misconception people have about trauma healing that can actually slow their progress?

The most common misconception about trauma healing is that the incident has been forgiven and forgotten!

This is known as denial since it’s clear that the body doesn’t lie; the cellular memory is there as evidence in the form of a physical issue and will continue to show up until the issue is resolved.

You often speak about expressing our unique "divine spark." What does that look like in everyday life once someone has begun to heal?

The “divine spark” is the energy or enthusiasm that is generated from within when we are no longer wasting our energy to suppress emotions or be preoccupied by what others may think.

It’s similar to what we see in children when they are allowed the freedom to naturally express themselves without criticism or judgment

If readers could leave this conversation with one new perspective on healing and personal transformation, what would you hope it would be?

I would sincerely hope that they get a sense that there’s so much about themselves that is yet to be revealed and that with further exploration, they will be able to attain a life that they did not know was possible.
