They’ve stood tall for millennia, bearing witness to the rise and fall of civilizations, silently nurturing life with every breath we take. Trees are more than just nature’s architecture; they are Earth’s original guardians, offering shelter, wisdom, and balance. This heartfelt tribute honours their enduring presence and reminds us of our sacred bond with the natural world.

A misty forest is bathed in golden sunlight, with beams of light streaming through the trees and fog.

Dear beloved trees,

This is my heart laid bare.

This is my soul kneeling at your roots.

This is the greatest love story I will ever write.

You tall, still, wise, were here long before we were. You reached toward the heavens while anchoring the earth. You danced in storms and whispered in breezes. You offered shade in heat, shelter in rain, and beauty in all seasons. You cooled the Earth when the sun grew too bold. You filtered the poison from the air we choked with our machines. You swallowed our sorrows in silence, transmuting fear, anger, and grief without ever asking for thanks.

You absorb our rage. You soften our sadness. You take our worst and give us back life.

And still we cut you down.

We plow through sacred forests to build blacktop parking lots and lifeless developments. We destroy your roots to pour concrete. We clear your canopies to build shopping centers that no one needs and high-rise condos that block out the sky. We replace your ancient silence with the hum of greed and the roar of machines.

And you, weakened, wounded, voiceless, are left to bleed unseen. I am so sorry.

I am sorry for every chainsaw and bulldozer that pierced your flesh. For every ignorant man who saw profit instead of spirit.

For every law passed to sell off your sacred ground to the highest bidder. For every moment, humanity chose convenience over connection.

You are not just wood.

You are not just shade.

You are sentient. Conscious. Sacred.

You are the lungs of this Earth. The ancient memory. The standing elders of all life. You deserved better.

The Earth is too hot now. And we wonder why because we cut down the very beings who cooled it.

We ask why our emotions are heavy, our minds clouded, because we destroyed the protectors who absorbed what we could not carry.

We have forgotten the language of the land.

We have forgotten what it means to kneel before something greater than ourselves.

We are drunk on our own power, blind in our ambition, disconnected from the soul of the planet. I write this for every tree that stood tall and was torn down.

For every forest turned to pavement.

For every grove now buried beneath a strip mall.

I write this for the future trees, the unborn seeds, whose home may never come to be. I write this as both a eulogy and a prayer.

May we remember.

May we return.

May we fall back in love with the world before it’s too late.

This is my promise to you: I will speak for you. I will fight for you. I will weep for you. I will plant where I can and protect what is left.

And I will never forget your beauty, your grace, your quiet strength. You are my oldest love. My truest teacher. My forever muse.

With my deepest love and fiercest sorrow.
